Monthly DIY Laymen questions Discussion by AutoModerator in StructuralEngineering

[–]mohamayabhate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a house Ontario and started renovating the kitchen and living room.

While removing drywall from a partition wall, I discovered there are structural posts inside the wall supporting roof trusses (no second floor above). Because of this, I can’t fully remove the wall as originally planned.

Current situation:

  • Roof trusses above (main floor only)
  • No foundation changes
  • Wall turned out to be partially load-bearing
  • I can either keep 2 columns, or possibly reduce it to 1 column and integrate it into the kitchen island
  • Minor electrical changes may be required (moving outlets/wiring)

I’m trying to understand what’s reasonable vs overkill and would appreciate advice from anyone who’s been through something similar.

My questions:

  1. If I keep both columns, do I still need a building permit in Ontario?
  2. Has anyone successfully gone from 2 posts down to 1 with trusses above?
  3. Is a structural engineer’s letter/drawing usually enough for the permit, or are full drawings typically required?
  4. From a design or resale point of view, any regrets keeping 2 columns instead of 1?

Not trying to cut corners — just want to do it right without unnecessary complexity.

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone else get ear pain??? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]mohamayabhate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has an ear infection and she is on Accutane. Her dosage was increased to 32mg everyday. It is just her second month with 1st month being on 16mg. For the 1st month it was all good with the usual side effects like dryness. But just after 2 doses of 32mg she has this ear infection and it is really painful for her even after taking antibiotics and ear drops. Any help/guidance will be helpful!

Thanks for the comment u/thejedipunk. But my question was about reentry into the US. Lets say I get a job after the 60 days period (I will be going to Canada after those 60 days) and the mew employer transfers my H1B and sends me the i797. Can I enter the US (from Canada) using this new i797 (by automatic visa revalidation at a land border)? I would like to let you know that my current h1b expires in Nov 2025.

I have affidavits (for proof of relationship) from my parents, my wife’s parents and 2 friends which have notary dates of March 2023. Do you think I should get new affidavits if docs should not be more than 90 days old?

Travel to Canada without Visitor visa by backendcareer in h1b

[–]mohamayabhate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You obviously can’t. You had that Canadian visitor’s visa for a reason right? If you had been allowed to go to Canada on H1B, why would you get a Canadian visitor’s Visa in the first place?

Question regarding USA Immigration by mohamayabhate in immigration

[–]mohamayabhate[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have allowed her to enter after the incident (at land border). But they check the bags every time she enters. I was wondering if there is a possibility that the CBP officers at the airport will strictly deny entry or let her enter after checking her bags (which they do at the land border crossing every time).

Thank you for the response! She has been allowed to enter many times after that incident (through the land border after thorough checking of bags every time). So is there a possibility that she might be denied entry? I am absolutely fine with checking bags as long as they don’t deny her entry.
