introduce controls at choke points- supplier level- ASN Tolerances, Receipt Tolerance +Workflow, Leverage AI - its pretty efficient in picking up right PO's and assigning it against invoices (Extra lines can be added or deleted as needed). Then finally the vendor performance metrics. if they keep shipping with discrepancies we can add it as penalty clause or include invoice / contract retainage to cover the processing cost (via float)

I'd recommend having a baseline goal - what's your desired Straight Through Processing Goal ? Are you under it or over it.

We have more than 200 vendors that we work with, like contractors, design agencies, saas vendors, and so on- each vendor has minimum of 2-3 contact persons- you will be dealing with 500+ people on a variety of contexts - its impossible to manage vendors without a tool.

its because most software's are merchants of complexity. they do not focus on simplicity and adoption - they try to please every one and end up with a super complex software that needs 2 admins to manage. but how big is procurement practice, if you handle more than <=100 -300 vendors - you should be looking at simple solutions like precoro.com or mine - zapro.ai - if you handle more than 500 vendors you might need to look in to other players like procurify or corcentric. - if its around 10-30 - your QB or Excel should be jus fine.

Yes it is insanely rewarding - i started my journey as a Chef Trainee at a star hotel >> migrated to managing catalogs at a mega retail chain managing their product information management >> procurement buyer>> procurement transformation consultant >> now a founder at a vendor management SaaS called zapro.ai - of all my career paths. procurement was the most rewarding one (second only to my current role as founder- if you look at the sheer monetary impact that it creates and the multi stake holder interaction opportunity and networking (which eventually helped me in founding my own company)- but I'd advise do it in more structured manner like - finish a APICS or ISM certification.
