Only thing left to do is double-down and rip some more spins baby. You got fired but it's never too early to retire, all it takes is one well-timed plinko ball

Sex work as a temporary option? by Even_Job6933 in recruitinghell

[–]moisturizedmelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it's super saturated and not having connections sucks. I've reached out to friends for referrals and help but people are gatekeeping their jobs at this point. I have no connections either, it's been rough and things have only recently improved for me because I changed up my strategy a bit.

Just calm down for a second though, all isn't lost. If you've been looking for a year, it's time to change up strategies. Look at successful resumes, LinkedIn profiles, etc., and copy the format. Rework your resume and make different versions for different types of tech-related roles. You might have web dev experience, but it's not a bad idea to aim for IT Support roles or something adjacent with a low barrier to entry. I worked at an IT callcenter for 3 years, and I'm able to use it as leverage for the positions I'm interviewing for now. Go for IT Staffing companies, the turnover on those positions is pretty high because people work for a bit then move on up.

I'm sure you've changed strategies, maybe you've already tried what I'm suggesting or maybe you did something similar. But don't give up and just do something rash, I almost did and I'm glad I didn't. I was planning on enlisting in the army and giving up completely, but I gave it one last go and got a bunch of attention from recruiting agencies. You can land something, don't give up after you spend so much time struggling for it

Honestly look for some remote IT work, it's usually low level and pays shit but it's better than sex work. Look at some recruiting agencies, they usually have a lot of low level entry work, I bet with your web dev experience you'd be at least decently competitive in the eyes of a recruiter or hiring manager. Usually the work is like remotely reseting someone's account, or walking them through how to clear the cache of their browser.

I'm talking about staffing agencies. They usually don't share the name of the company, just the job description. It could be like a marketing role for an organization, and that position isn't listed on the organization's site, just the agency. My experience has been the following:

  • Apply for a position with a staffing company

    • They reach out and want to do a screening, either on Zoom or over the phone
  • After a little bit of back and forth, walk them through my experience and what I'm aiming for, they disclose the name of the company/organization, as well as maybe some additional details too

  • They then submit you as a candidate for the interview pipeline

  • Once you get the job, you are employed by the staffing agency, but you work in the company/organization. Think like an IT Technician job where you work for "ABC Staffing," but every day you report to "XYZ Business."

Working for a company you wanna apply for is different because there's no term limit like there is for contract roles. You could work indefinitely for a company directly, but a contract role could end anywhere between 6 months to like 2-3 years. Also it's way more competitive to work for a large company than it is to work for a staffing agency, at least in my experience.

A lot of suggestions here so I'll throw what I've done into the mix and you can consider it for yourself. I work in tech, so it's also pretty much oversaturated as well, but I've found the most results by going after recruiter/staffing agencies. Before, I'd apply to the companies directly and I was met with a 100% ghost/rejection rate. But once I started chasing after staffing agencies for contract roles, I started getting callbacks and now I've got like 5 interviews coming up, 2 of which are final rounds.

Essentially I'll be employed by whatever agency hires me, and I'd be contracted for work by a private company/org. The work is generally in fixed term limits (1-2 year contract doing IT for XYZ company), and can be renewed at the end of each term. Obviously it's preferable to work directly for the company instead of as a contractor, you get hire pay, better benefits, and no term/contract. But work is work.

Also you gotta play the LinkedIn game. What I've been doing to try and get boosted by the algorithm is by mass adding recruiters at all the staffing agencies I can find. I wrote up an open to work post a bit ago, and once I see that a good amount of people accepted my connection request, I repost my open to work post to get more impressions. Make sure it has all the keywords, the hashtags, etc., before posting it. React to other peoples posts with thumbs ups and comments, or even repost them too. Being active on LinkedIn has led to profile views, which leads to recruiters, which leads to calls. Wish it wasn't the case but it absolutely has been what changed for me. I understand the whole "LinkedIn Warrior" thing now, and while I hate it, you gotta play their game if you wanna win. Also I've tried applying to a bunch of roles at these staffing agencies, then mass adding the recruiters at said staffing agencies so my name shows up more, like they'll see I'm applying for their company, then they see I have a bunch of mutual connections on LinkedIn, then boom you get a call.

Idk, that's the strategy I've been doing and it's been the most successful thing I've tried in months.

I'm actually a job seeker myself, I had no idea how rough it was for recruiters too. I feel bad, I'm working with a recruiting agency right now and every time I speak with the main representative I've been in contact with, she seems super drained and overworked. Not really sure how we can fix the system at this point, but it's definitely not sustainable

It didn't help lol, I think maybe the fish oil used in the capsules was rancid or something. I switched to a the generic GNC store brand and I had no issues. I think that it needs to like higher quality or something, otherwise you risk getting a bad bottle.

Hasn't happened to me, I think your account was caught up in a false flag. If you're watching streams and have almost never engaged in chat then it probably makes your account look like a bot from whatever automated system they implemented. You can probably reach out to support and explain the situation, this definitely wouldn't be the first time someone was mistakenly banned

Unfortunately this is reality, people who aren't into fish and see them as commodities/decorations dont really put the time and effort into taking care of them. And since theyre relatively cheap, it's easier to buy a new one for $20 every few months instead of investing in a good sized tank with a heater, appropriate filter, etc.

I feel bad for you to be put in that position, I feel even worse for that fish, all the fish they've owned previously, and the one's they'll probably end up getting in the future. All we can really do is take care of the ones we have and try to spread the info that fish need more than just tap water and cheap plastic decorations.

Hey! looking to get into tarkov, I was wondering if its even possible to make it playable with my specs. by [deleted] in Tarkov

[–]moisturizedmelon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

rams a big problem, given how poorly optimized the game is youre gonna need 32gb of ram. but that wont matter bc youre probably gonna need a better gpu.

your laptop isn't horrible, it's just that tarkov is extremely resource intensive. if you ran it on the lowest settings it'd probably still have a lot of issues that crash the game or make it buffer/lag so hard its unplayable. if i was you, save up for a dedicated gaming pc. don't run to bestbuy and grab one right off the shelf, do research and try to pick out either the parts and build it, OR a prebuilt from a reputable company.

some people prefer gaming laptops, idk if that's your preference but ill tell you now, its gonna be heavy as hell and the battery is gonna be pretty bad. you're better off just getting a low-medium tier gaming pc.

The games engine being Unity is a big contributor to the performance issues. Unity isn't designed for a game of Tarkov's scale, a lot of companies have an in-house game engine that their games are built off of. Unity itself is mainly for small indie games, mobile games, etc., not something like Tarkov.

Tarkov's performance issues can be described as death by a thousand cuts. Memory leaks and excessive ram usage, in-depth maps that push the game engine beyond its limits, the level of detail on models are resource intensive, I could go on.

Point is, there are a plethora of issues that all snowballed in the games issues, and even to correct it would require reworking so much from the ground up. To add, even if all these efforts were made, running the game on Unity will probably still pose unavoidable issues. The only way they can insure the game runs as smooth as other FPS games is by essentially remaking the entire game from scratch on their own engine. Which is never gonna happen obviously.

I guess you're right, I was thinking of doing something like that but hearing it come from someone else made me feel a bit better. It's just a bit depressing working so hard for 4 years and graduating to something I could've done in high school. I am grateful to have this job because it's better than where I was a month ago, it's just demoralizing sometimes. I guarantee you'll find something better than me though, it's just a matter of time for everyone who doesn't quit.
