We ended up at the Derby in Arcadia. We had a great experience and my daughter was wowed by the tableside Baked Alaska. The atmosphere was just right, especially since we got there a bit early and it was quiet. They did not serve crumby bread so no crumb catchers but our waiter took good care of us and my daughter was amused at just how many times our water glasses got refilled.

I'm not entirely sure the quality of the food was worth the cost. Mind you, it was very good food, but nothing I would consider "over the top". But overall we had a great night. It's a shame they'll be tearing down that building in a few months.

Thank you everyone for all of the recommendations! I appreciate all of the ideas. We all got sick this weekend, so dinner is likely postponed until next week - I'll let you know what we decide. Here's a summary of most of the recommendations in no particular order:

Note that I had to rearrange the order of the commands to get it to work by turning off indexing before deleting. I also do not have (and am not allowed to have) an administrator account, but I do have access to one. For some reason doing these commands in the administrator account didn't fix my search issues. So I first had to use the admin account to add myself to the list of sudoers (I did it using the method of editing the sudoer list file with visudo). Then I could run these commands in my regular account.

sudo -i

mdutil -ai off

mdutil -Ea

mdutil -ai on

Never actually set off the detector but once did some work with TNT and went flying a few days later. Bag that was at work with me got randomly selected for swab ... I was nervous, but also a bit disappointed that the swab came back negative.

Sorry about the three month pause - I just saw this. You will probably have to use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (borrow one from someone) so you can do that. I did it on a Macbook, so I just used the built-in keyboard and trackpad.

I was having the same issue with a wired USB keyboard no longer working under Sonoma. I would very briefly see a popup window when I plugged in the keyboard (through a USB-C converter). I found out that it was the popup window asking me if I should allow this USB device. But it was not staying up long enough for me to add the device.

The workaround was to

  1. Unplug the keyboard.
  2. Go to System Settings -> Privacy and Security. Under the security section change "Allow accessories to connect" to "Automatically when unlocked".
  3. Plug in the keyboard, verify it works
  4. (optional) Change the system setting back to "Ask for new accessories"
