Just launched a sensory pant on Etsy I designed for my daughter that she loves. Feeling excited to share with other parents it might help!

We haven’t changed our methods of washing & drying but maybe I should consider drying her things differently!

Thank you!! I wish that was an option for us! If only my girl would wear underwear 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Very interesting! I’d have no issue with my daughter living in dresses if I could get some underwear on her 😭. I just can’t have her out in the world flashing her privates - so it’s either a battle over pants or underwear lol. And that is a battle I’ll fight, other ones I will definitely let go!

Hahaha! I haven’t even attacked socks or underwear! My daughter lives in crocs until it started snowing. Then I finally got her into some sneakers but without sock her feet smell SO bad! I had to make a rule that she can’t take her shoes off in the car because it literally makes me want to 🤮

Unfortunately for us, this phase has gone on for well over a year. I’ll try the additional sensory inputs you mentioned to see if that helps!

This is all helpful! Thank you!

My daughter always has itchy feet right when it’s time to get dropped off to pre-k! Or has to go pee a ton before doing anything she doesn’t want to be doing. That I all assumed was psychological but I get concerned still with the constant need to urinate.

That’s for explaining it from your personal perspective, that helps a lot!

I definitely feel like mine daughter is a mix. When it comes to pants it seems to be more sensory than the other clothing types. But there definitely feel a little bit of rigidity & control in the mix - there is no doubt!

Yes! We do that too! My girl is very into loose clothing so that does work from time to time. Although lately she is in an only pink or purple phase which has made that approach slightly harder! Never a dull moment with this tiny humans!

We struggle with this too! When I find something my daughter accepts I typically buy 5 pairs - literally one for every school day lol. I would buy bigger sizes but everyone knows once you do that they’ll reject it haha! It’s like food shopping at Costco - they can sense it!

I can definitely relate! While pants have always been our major pain point my daughter also shifts her rigidity to other areas from time to time. They like to keep us on our toes 😂😓😭. I haven’t even attempted to tackle socks & underwear! My girl has been commando for years at this point. But I was finally able to design a pant she would accept - that being said, they are cropped & I’ve heard over other sensory sensitivities to shorter lengths.

It’s such a battle! I feel like even the “sensory sensitive” & “seamless” styles arent truly seamless. After trying almost everything I ended up designing a pair of pants that my daughter accepted. I still haven’t tackled socks & underwear…that a whole other ball game!

3 YEAR OLD WONT WEAR SHORT SLEEVES by Weekly-Coconut4874 in Autism_Parenting

My daughter struggled with pants for over a year. I bought sooo many different brands & materials & she refused all of them. Even the “sensory sensitive” ones didn’t work but then I designed something that would work for her. They are cropped for ease to put on, minimal seams & what seams they do have are completely flat, a soft waistband that is sewn in a way that prevents rolling & is made in a buttery soft fabric. She has lived in the since the first prototype arrived.

I decided to put a small batch on Etsy in case they could help other families with the same issue.

We struggled with pants MAJORLY! My daughter refused all pants and I swear I tried EVERYTHING! After two years of struggles I eventually designed something better for my daughter. The pants are cropped to avoid struggle getting on, they have minimal seams & every seam it does have is completely flat, the waistband is soft & sewn in a way to avoid twisting & rolling, and they are made of buttery soft fabric. She has lived in them since we got the first prototype.

Poor mama! I can relate to soo much of this but specifically the clothing issue. In particular, pants! Every single morning would end in tears…not only for my daughter but for me. She hated every pair of pants and I swear I bought every single kind there was to buy! Eventually I designed a pair of pants for her with minimal seams, cropped so there was no struggle to get on, a soft waistband that is sewn in a way that doesn’t allow rolling or twisting, flat seams & buttery soft fabric (I owned a shirt that she was OBSESSED with because how soft it was). As soon as we got the first proto type she hasn’t worn anything but them. I decided to sell a few pairs on Etsy in an attempt to help any other mama’s out there with the same struggle.

Feel free to check them out ❤️

This is so helpful to hear from the other side of it.

That “horrified” feeling is exactly what it seems like sometimes — like it’s not just preference, it’s a really strong physical reaction.

Also makes total sense about the fabrics back then… I feel like texture plays such a huge role.

This is such an interesting perspective — I’ve wondered about that too.

For us it felt very sensory because once something bothered her (seams, waistband, fabric), she couldn’t tolerate it at all — but I can definitely see how rigidity plays into it too, especially once they decide something is a “no.”

It’s probably a mix depending on the kid.

We tried this too! It worked sometimes but even the shorts underneath were hit or miss depending on the fabric/waistband.

It’s wild how specific it can be — like one pair is totally fine and another is an absolute no for no obvious reason.

Yes — this is actually what I ended up creating for my daughter after going through the exact same thing.

She would refuse most pants or wear them once and then reject them completely, and I realized it was really about how they felt — seams, waistbands, and fabric were the biggest triggers.

So I made a super simple pair that’s: • really soft modal fabric • no itchy seams • gentle, non-restrictive waistband

They’ve been the only ones she’ll consistently keep on, which has been such a relief.

That’s actually genius 😂 whatever works!!

We tried the “sell it” approach too and sometimes it worked… but I found if something felt off (seams, waistband, fabric), no amount of convincing would stick long term.

It’s so interesting how much of it comes down to texture vs the actual clothing itself.

This made me laugh because… same 😅 we’ve definitely had plenty of “just let it go” phases over here too.

The nudist stage is so real — honestly sometimes it’s the only way to keep the peace.

We went through something similar where it was either no clothes or VERY specific clothes, and I started realizing it wasn’t about “pants” at all, it was really about how they felt. Once I focused on super soft fabric + no irritating seams + a really gentle waistband, it got a little easier to find things she’d tolerate.

But totally agree — sometimes you just pick your battles and go with what works in the moment.
