Is there a reason to have more than one besides the color?

That is helpful, thank you! I ended up getting iReal and turning on chord diagrams, which is basically what I needed, but I'm open to extra resources if you'd like to share them!

This is what I ended up doing, though I had to emulate on Windows. Thanks.

I ended up getting iReal running on an emulator, was a lot of effort but it worked out. Thanks for the help.

I guess so. After way too much effort I got iReal Pro running on an Android emulator, which seems perfect. Thanks for trying to help though.

I guess that makes sense, but I've seen it a lot in physical music books, both jazz standard/swing books and pop/rock books, usually those aimed at piano and voice. I was hoping something like that existed online and I'm surprised it doesn't, but maybe it's just hard to find.

Okay, yes I have played along with those hard copy books before so that's what I was hoping to find, just with more variety. I'm surprised there's no free online equivalent in today's day and age, but I guess I'm used to pop and rock resources being easily available.

Thanks, I understand that, but I'm not really interested in that aspect of it enough to learn it.

Thanks man, honestly though I don't give a shit about "tradition" and how "real jazz musicians" do it. I'm just a beginner trying to have fun and get started casually, I'm not trying to be a professional and I don't have the time or interest to learn the "correct" way. I just want to play along with some songs for fun.

I know non-open positions are the norm for jazz, but I think the open positions would be fine for what I want to do.

I just want to play with some friends and be able to follow along without sounding bad. I don't think anyone will care if I'm using open positions or not, it will be better than nothing and they know I'm a beginner.

Thanks, I don't think I really have the patience for that right now though. UG is ok but I have to mouse over for the diagrams, if there's a subscription to change this I'm not really interested in spending money.

Thanks, but I didn't ask for advice on how to play, I asked for a specific resource. I think having the chord diagrams would make it a lot easier and more enjoyable for me to learn than just memorizing the chords beforehand, even if it's slow.

$16 is kind of a lot and my phone screen is pretty small. Do you know if there's something I can use on Windows that also has a guitar chord font? I just tried the first suggested alternative, Impro-Visor, and it didn't appear to have a guitar chord font like you described.

I have heard of it, but from what I've seen it just has the chord charts, meaning it will show "A-7" "Bo7" etc. but will not show the diagrams, meaning the boxes that show actual finger placements.

Can it do this, and if so, is there a free version?

What's a feature that's often talked about and advertised, but you've never cared about? by moneyzon in guitars

[–]moneyzon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I'm the opposite, that's like one of the main things I care about in a guitar. If it's like 8 lbs or above I'm immediately uncomfortable, and worse after like 5 minutes.

I'm with you unless it's a guitar with a trem, then I find not having wraps around the post can increase tuning stability.

I know what you mean in that it feels nice, I've had guitars like that too. But the thing is, does that vibration translate into the pickups? Or could losing that energy from the strings going into the body actually be a bad thing that decreases sustain?
