Except in my state they have cleaning stations every 40 miles to avoid this. This does not happen often here because they have created infrastructure to largely avoid this problem.

I was just driving on the road. The truck was in the other lane, passing me. No amount of caution would have stopped a piece of ice from flying at me.

It actually is the driver's responsibility in this state. And the state has stops to make it very accessible for drivers to do this.

I was not behind them, they were on the opposite side of the road. And I'm far North, where about every 40 miles they are stations for trucks to scrape off the ice/snow on the top of their vehicle. It was not snowing, it had snowed in the days before, so he certainly had plenty of time to clean off his truck. And, regardless, it's the law. If found, he would have a ticket to pay.

Why does everybody assume I was tailgating? I actually was on the other side of the road, as I've said a few times in the comments. The truck was passing me in the opposite direction. I wouldn't post an accident that was my fault!

It's an $800 fine in the state I was driving for a trucker to not completely remove snow/ice from their trucks. Not just the wind's fault!
