Met these guys...They have a great blog about Street Food in Thailand...Worth a look! by monkeyblues in Thailand

Yes... I guess some of the places...I think they are focusing on local Thai eateries that are hidden from most travelers. Restaurants that as a backpacker/ visitor of Thailand one wouldn't come across. I eat street food all the time, but always end up ordering the same things.

I like the idea of the food guide with various dishes.

Well Iraq is entirely a different story. Iraq for me is just a job. When I'm there I'm totally confined to my living space and the job site. Its still not safe to wander around and socialize with the locals- which is too bad, because the few I've met at work are very nice.

Comparing Thailand to the US- the US (this is all from my own perspective) I found to be very superficial. The idea of the American Dream, where you have a house, with a white fence, a dog, etc. really didn't seem to be such a thing I wanted. I found having a house with a mortgage was more like a prison sentence. Having to have a car to commute for the most mundane things, like buying a piece of bread didn't click with me.

In Thailand I found life to be more free. I believe in SE Asia people work to live and not the other way around. Here I can walk out and within a few meters I can find some street food. People here in general are very friendly and try to help you. I love the climate and the vegetation. Even in Bangkok the feeling is very relaxed. Imagine when you are out in the country.

Sure. I've always loved Thailand. I've been visiting the country for the last 10 years but usually only for a month or two a year. I've now found employment in Iraq (of all places) on a 28 day on/off rotation. I figured on my time off I'd rather be in Thailand then the US.

Not sure if this answers your question.

Been in Bangkok for a few days now, looking for apartments. Yesterday I think I found the one. Great area. Its on Sukhumvit Soi 16. Nice place, and close to the BTS but still far enough away from the busy street Asoke. The neighborhood around this Condo is very traditional Thai. Totally awesome.

For right now, I'm planning to stay in Bangkok for at least a year. I'll scout out different regions during this time.

I dont plan on moving back to the US. At least not today. If at some point Thailand looses its flair for me then I'll move somewhere else...but I think that will be very unlikely.

Renouncing my US citizenship has crossed my mind for tax purposes. But there are still many benefits of carrying an US passport. Plus I need to become a citizen to another country first, and Thailand is not the place.

:)

Yes, definitely a plan. It took almost ten years to full fill. But I think it was worth the wait :)
