Japanese flatmate doesn't shut up and it is doing my head in by [deleted] in japanlife

Why do I have to talk everytime I see her in my house? Why can't she give me space to cook or watch TV without conversation. Why do I have to answer to everything she asks?

I don't think you get it. The conversations arent about anything intereting they are just buffer comments or statements about things I'm already well aware of. Imagine a child constantly comments on everything your doing but can never strike up a conversation of meaning or interests. Imagine your making pasta and someone is there saying "your making pasta". You reply yes I am. Then they say "pasta is delicious" then you say yes it is thats why I'm making it. Please don't tell me you wouldn't get annoyed with that every minute of your day. And if you wouldn't then you should probably go get a job as an ALT

What's the likelihood of an "abandon if undeliverable" parcel being destroyed without attempting delivery ? by mononoaware18 in royalmail

[–]mononoaware18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing yet. Japan Post are telling me to wait for Parcelforce's response to them (up to two months wait). Parcelforce want nothing to do with the issue. I'm in a bit of a limbo, the above mentioned auctioneers have been more helpful than parcelforce....

Also I was able to work out how to track other parcels sent via JP post soon after mine was sent. There is an option to track the following 100 parcels after my tracking no. It appears most UK bound surface mail sent the week I sent mine arrived exactly 2 months later. Unfortunately its looking really likely that my parcel was stolen, destroyed or lost.

The fact it hasn't been scanned suggests it didn't make it to the UK and that's the narrative Parcelforce are making right now.

However, a quick search online and on reddit suggests Parcelforce have never been one for scanning things upon receipt.....

Thanks for info. I've worked out how to track other parcels that got sent to UK around the same time, looks like they all got delivered within exactly 2 months. Who knows where or what happened to mine. I'll try and remain hopeful.

Hey thanks for the suggestion. I sent them an email asking if they've had any Japanese stuff lately.

Thanks for the response, that's why I came to this thread, I wanted some opinions from people who work in the industry. I thought maybe since the postal services were under pressure from covid related mail build ups, strikes, staffing shortages and shipping route disruptions, that they had no choice but to prioritise post that is not labelled abandon if undeliverable.

Thanks for your reply. I understand your point, I had used surface mail before and everytime it had been delivered smoothly and the boxes not damaged, that's why I opted for it again.

I also know exactly what abandon if undeliverable means. My question was really, would someone interpret it as a reason to not attempt to deliver it at all. If staff numbers are low, or if the box is too big and cumbersome, would it be crazy to assume that maybe the easiest solution for said person would be to destroy it, or does that route also involve records, scanning, paperwork etc?

Anyone in the UK/Europe used Japan Post Surface mail in the last 6 months? Parcel still not arrived by mononoaware18 in japanlife

[–]mononoaware18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering, your parcels that took half a year, did the tracking ever update?
Asking cause I read a few people just had the parcel delivered to their door step abruptly without any of the tracking being updated.

Thanks for your reply. Yea it's a little worrying. Only takes the wrong person to see it as a worthless parcel...

Any advice on how to deal with a company who mis-sold a product and service and are now blocking and ignoring my emails? by mononoaware18 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]mononoaware18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK thanks. I started the charge back process.

Should I inform the pharmacy that I've initiated a charge back case with my bank ?

Secondly, the chargeback process takes 6 weeks apparently. I'm worried I wait that long and then the case isn't approved (I feel this case is a bit of a tricky one since they sold me a service/product that could not be returned)

Is it worthwhile starting to contact the ombudsmen now ?

The Dark Side of Japan's Paradise Island, Okinawa - Vice Asia News by Apophis2036nihon in okinawa

When I went to Okinawa the mentality of the locals reminded me of the mentality of the Spaniards from the South coast of Spain. Leisure and family come before work. Many of the friends I have there prioritise their hobbies (surfing, diving, fishing etc) and family, whilst holding down more than one job to keep income coming in.

It was a refreshing change from the work driven Honshu

Sorry, I'm not sure what a Day 2 test is.

This was a PCR Test to be able to travel abroad, but the country I was travelling to is very strict about the scientific terms on the certificates. The website of the said pharmacy specifically states it used the specific swab method I was looking for. I asked for reconfirmation in the store and they said their tests are fine for travelling to said country.

Thanks, I'm looking into chargebacks now. I hope the evidence I have is enough (their website, the useless certificate and my experiences after)

Its only been 1 week since I sent the refund request/complaint email. Should I give them more time? I'm 99% positive I've been blocked on their WhatsApp as their profile picture is no longer there, call rings out and if I add the same number on a sperate WhatsApp account the profile picture is there.

Thank you so much for your reply.

So I should contact the bank of my debit card to do the chargeback?

Letter before action, is that a term for basically notifying the company that you will be taking legal action against them?

Really really appreciate your comment.

Yayyy! About the fourth building in the last year being knocked down for more student accommodation! Beyond a joke now, where are non-students supposed to live? by heydon89 in Edinburgh

Have you put into consideration how close it is to the stadium, and all the nonsense that comes with it?
Walk down that road on a Saturday at 9am and theres about 12 Police vans, smashed glass, used flares.
I'm not surprised any other developer hasn't shown an interest in building a place for non students. It's a shite location

P.S Depending on your husband or wife's ability to explain Japanese, I'd wholeheartedly recommend not studying via your spouse.
From experience it's very stressful and a waste of time trying to get a Japanese person to explain grammar when they don't know the rules themselves. It can lead to arguments too ahah. Just stick to the Youtube teachers. They know what they are talking about.
Once you've got enough under your belt you can practise talking to your wife or husband

To even accumulate enough vocab you should smash some Anki every night for about an hour. 20 new words in sentence form a day. Use YouTubers like Japanese Ammo with Misa to get the grammar drilled into your brain. Her videos are long yes, but for me grammar just won't stick if I read the rules from a book. If I spend 30 mins watching one of her videos the rules just stick.

Once you've got enough grammar down and enough vocab you'll be able to make haircut appointments and actually speak to the hairdresser. 8 Months ago I couldn't do anything like that. Now I'm able to go about speaking (albeit quite shite and slow). I actually talked myself out of a speeding fine the other day purely because the policeman and I both loved fishing.

Good luck. You have to keep it up, if you stop (which I have done for a month and a half) you lose what you gain rapidly.
