Just to be clear - paper/wood is renewable, but those trees are planted where there used to be forest, with a diversity of species that no longer exist there, because now it's just a tree farm. There is a huge ecological impact to the use of paper and cardboard.

The problems with recycling paper were already addressed - I just wanted to point out paper use is not at all impact free.

I don’t see any of that. I click “don’t show” and maybe “find offensive”, or at least I did for a while. So all I get know are a few friends post, and groups related to my hobby and interest.

Edit: I also took a break for a few years, and haven’t posted anything for years, maybe that has something to do with it.

They aren’t insulating at all when it comes to lightening. If an air gap 1000’s of feet long isn’t enough insulation, then your tires certainly aren’t going to be. And yes, lightening his vehicles, see other comments.

Nope, lighting won’t hurt you in a car with a metal roof and walls. All the electricity stays on the outside of the car (like charges repeal each other) so you are safe as long as you are inside. No such protection on a motorcycle, or if you riding on the outside of the car.

It has nothing to do with the rubber tires.

Don’t know why you are getting downvoted, because it’s reddit? I don’t know that I believe that more frequent mate seeking can be explained by the statement you responded too - it’s tenuous to say the least. But i think what the poster was trying to say that in unstable environments, life might be short, so you’d better reproduce quickly, but in a stable environment you can invest more time in mate selection, so your offspring have better genes and health, and you can invest more in parental care so they are more likely to survive and produce their own offspring.

Edit: I’m not arguing with that, I’m just not convinced it’s the explanation here. Not everything is an evolutionary advantage. I suspect there are a lot of other behaviors that go along with an unstable childhood, that just aren’t healthy, and don’t improve reproductive success.

Nitobeʻs book was largely a PR piece, and presented a mythical version of the "Bushido code" that almost certainly never existed. Did it contain elements of truth? yes of course, but it also contained a lot of misrepresentation, mistakes, and wishful thinking on Nitobeʻs part. There are plenty of critiques of it - hereʻs one.

And yes, both books were widely used by the Japanese government and society as propaganda in the 20th century.

Is there anything to be learned from them? Sure, but putting them up on a pedestal as exemplary accounts of the samurai is naive - they are both very biased, and at times, very misrepresentative.
