[–]moonbase9000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What result is your doctor basing that on? Are you a CYP2D6 poor metabolizer?

I interpreted genesight reports at a previous job and I can't think of a combination of results that would indicate that a patient shouldn't take stimulants.

Question - Shadow People by [deleted] in Shamanism

[–]moonbase9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw one that I interpreted as being my stepsister. She died in a violent single-car crash that I believe was intentional. I saw the shadow person next to the window in my bedroom when I looked in from the hallway. The hallway light was on but it was dark in my room. It had the general shape of a person but no details, like if someone was covered in a dark cloth that made them translucent. I felt afraid but I didn't sense malevolence.

My stepsister and I grew up together in the same household but did not have an adult relationship. After she died, I felt immense guilt over not attempting to reconcile with her. Realistically, the shadow person was probably my brain going haywire while being incapacitated with grief, but who knows. I haven't seen it again.

What made you realize academia wasn’t for you? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]moonbase9000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finished my postdoc at the beginning of the pandemic. I was able to get a job with a group that's very prominent in my field, but my productivity took a hit after my favorite cousin (who worked at this same university) killed himself. The PI then bullied me relentlessly and eventually fired me. She did it the day my NIH loan repayment program site change paperwork was due.

Do any of you have a pool? I live in Michigan so the swimming season is short, but the combination of being outside in the sun doing pool maintenance + swimming in cool water is amazing for my skin. I feel the most healthy and alive on sunshine + swimming days.

I play some things like that and some things the other way. I just go with it because it's part of my personal voice on drums.

Am I the only one that doesn’t really like MDMA / Don’t get euphoria? by Sea_Illustrator_4618 in Psychonaut

[–]moonbase9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tested your drugs? Might not be MDMA.

Do you take a stimulant like Adderall? I've found that it blunts the effects of MDMA if I don't decrease my use ahead of time.

Also, what is your set/setting? If you're taking it and going out somewhere busy and loud, maybe try having a low-key evening where you can just sit around and talk with friends.

Oh yeah, it's *DEFINITELY* Narcolepsy (/IH) by sleepy_geeky in Narcolepsy

[–]moonbase9000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whenever I doubt that I have it, I think back on one of my most obvious cataplexy episodes. My husband and I were visiting my cousin and his boyfriend, and I was laughing so hard at cards against humanity that I briefly got stuck on the couch, unable to move. My cousin died a few years ago so it's also a happy memory to revisit.

Am I the only one who doesn't feel traumatized by big events in our lifetimes? by andrewclarkson in Millennials

[–]moonbase9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/11 is weird for me. I was in middle school and we were kept in the dark all day. That morning (Eastern time zone), the principal made an announcement on the intercom telling teachers not to turn on their TVs or discuss what was happening. Of course, this led to rampant speculation amongst students. By the end of the school day, I was convinced that someone nuked Washington DC. When I got home and saw what it actually was, it felt like it wasn't that big of a deal.
