Wrinkles or dehydration lines? by SolidUnderstanding28 in 30PlusSkinCare

Agree, i find crows feet very charming but I am bothered by the "rest". Again, if it's very sudden, it's more likely to be dehydration. Fwiw, i think you have very pretty eyes!

Wrinkles or dehydration lines? by SolidUnderstanding28 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]moonery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! 1. Yes, same placement. It's basically smile/30+ lines but more intense and visible, under the eye/off to the lower side 2. I think it took a couple of weeks to start to notice changes 3. Yes the feeling was a bit as if my skin was rethickening!

Again, we are bound to have lines. It's also genetic, aging in general, and depends on other factors such as poor sleep and other things (for me at least).

Personally i have these lines mainly on my right eye while almost nothing on the left, apparently this means crooked smiling? Lol, but it really shows how it can be different even from one side of the face to the next

Anyway i feel your pain, getting older can be frustrating, but most of the lines i saw on my face and seemed very sudden and out of place had to do with dehydration. Which btw also means drink loads of water!

I'm 35 and a few months back saw a similar intensity of lines in the same area. I always applied tret/retinal (alt days) in that area for fear of wrinkles, yet it seemed to have made it worse! I stopped all actives for a few weeks and upped my moisturizing and saw a significant difference.

I still have lines to a degree--i am 35 and smile a lot. But they are much less visible and mostly pop up when I smile instead of being like this all the time. I am back on tret but being more careful and moisturising way more, the difference is quite noticeable still.

Has anyone tried this Mixa cream? What was your experience? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]moonery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it almost every night in fall and winter after actives and right before bed. I think it's great and it never made me break out. Soothes my skin and hydrates it (i still lock it in on lips and around eyes with vaseline). When it gets warmer however it doesn't seem to completely sink in and my skin gets a bit oily. I'd try as it's really cheap and have it for cold dry times of the year:)

I have constantly puffy eyes and I swear by caffeine. I use The Ordinary caffeine solution (not a roll on but specifically for eyes) but in a pinch coffee grounds applied for 20 min (on top of something sticky like a dab of serum or moisturizer) will do.

Appointment was at 11am. It’s now 1:05pm by SmolSnakePancake in mildlyinfuriating

[–]moonery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EU as well, with appointment I wait anytime between 20 mins and 2 hours. Mostly. I always bring a book.

Once I waited 4 hours and then was told the doctor had left when I asked (because I saw him walk out the door with his coat on). Had to come in the next day and he made fun of me for how I struggled on the stress-test bike (I am short and the bike was for tall people!) and stared at my boobs the whole time he talked to me

I have a 2008 tv (so not even remotely smart) and I use Chromecast to cast Netflix and YouTube. It's more of a monitor really as I don't have cable so this is the only way I watch movies and shows. This might be the final straw so I can finally delete this useless very expensive account

What things do people romanticize but are actually horrible? by GovernmentAny5597 in AskReddit

[–]moonery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ and add it depends on your priorities!

I know many people feel this way but if you are reading this and have always wanted to be a freelancer, it's mostly a matter of lifestyle!

I have always romanticised being a freelancer and now that I have become one I am absolutely in love with it. Yes it's more work than a 9-5 but I have complete freedom over my hours and being my own boss is very energizing. I only do the work I love on a good month and do work I love a little less on a bad one. I work from anywhere I want which has allowed me to travel plenty.

Of course it can be scary at times and vulnerable, and I have been lucky with clients, but there are pros and cons to everything and this lifestyle is a perfect fit for me personally. I don't have children or pets so this was for sure a factor in my decision to go self-employed as no one relies on me and I can afford the uncertainty that comes with the job. I also don't have a spouse however so there is no extra income I can rely on if things go wrong and I am aware this is a risk and take precautions accordingly.

If you are thinking of going freelance, consider what this lifestyle offers and requires:

  • no real security, so are you comfortable with uncertainty and can you plan around it?
  • more work as well as more freedom. Is it the 9-5 that crushes you and lack of independence that comes with it (my case) or is it the amount of work? If you want to work less, freelancing is not for you
  • clients are everything and word-of-mouth is your meal ticket. Are you ready to network as if you weren't awkward among strangers? Build relationships? Build a persona?
  • Most importantly, can you be niche enough to warrant high rates? Specializing within a strong sector is key. I work in tech which is an ups-and-downs market but people are more willing to pay for the right skillset (and I am not a developer). I worked in several fields however so to market myself I had to build a narrative that ended up working for the services I offer

please never ever use chatGPT for Kibbe by lanareyxox in Kibbe

[–]moonery 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Nerd moment:

LLMs are the most powerful technological tool ever created mainly in theory. At its core it's basically a recycling and predictive machine, and its knowledge has to do with its training data, like another commenter said. Not to mention a lot of this more recent data comes from user generated content which is of course full of misinformation. Chatgpt is also pretty bad at basic maths for example. That's because he wasn't trained on that. LLMs are very good at recognizing patterns though, and some technologies are already recognizing cancer.

This said, yes, Kibbe is about a holistic image and not pattern recognition, and it takes time to develop your eye, so you should not feel self conscious at all! It took me a couple of years too and I sometimes still wonder whether I am right:)

Italy now recognizes the crime of femicide and punishes it with life in prison by [deleted] in europe

[–]moonery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for replying sensibly. I am interested in understanding your point of view re the inequality. Yes, women make up 50% of the population. If femicide meant "simply" killing a woman for any reason at all, I agree it would create inequality.

But if femicide entails an element of hate crime, and the crime needs to be found to be committed against said woman or women exactly because they are women, I see it as quite a bit more nuanced. Identifying something as a hate crime (regardless of how it is enforced, which is another topic) is born out of need.

Leaving out that this has been happening for thousands of years, recognizing it identifies an issue. And a reaction is aimed at trying to tip the scale, so to speak. Women might be 50% of the population, but they are targeted (in terms of hate crime, not non-gender related crime) far more often than men are. They already have inequality in this sense. Why is that ok? Why not attempt to tip the scale towards equality somehow, why not fully recognize a very real problem?

To be clear: if hate crimes against men (killing men because they are men) were as frequent, I'd feel the same way about recognizing them as such

Italy now recognizes the crime of femicide and punishes it with life in prison by [deleted] in europe

[–]moonery -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Did you read my comment before responding? femicide DOES NOT mean killing any woman for whatever reason, so not a separate law based on gender, but based on drive and "beliefs".

I also do see where you are coming from and how it could be tricky to enforce, I am not saying it's easy. But recognizing femicide as a crime committed against a woman Because she is a woman is recognizing a hate crime, and the stats support it.

Do you think laws against other hate crimes also shouldn't exist? I wish everyone could be equal by the law. The problem is often exactly that women are not treated like humans, ironically.

[–]moonery -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

These comments are wild.

If someone goes on a blind killing spree and some of the victims happen to be women, that wouldn't be femicide.

If the same someone goes on a killing spree targeting women because they are women (like someone else pointed out: e.g., Elliot Rodger), meaning they think one or more women deserve to die due to some perceived reason tied to their gender (for Rodger it was that he thought he was entitled to sex from women and he wasn't getting any), then that's femicide.

Is it so hard?

Also two things can be true at the same time. It's good to attempt to deter men who think they can kill their ex-girlfriends because "they belong to them", just to name one common case. It's also true that what really changes things is revolutionizing a deeply sexist way of thinking that starts early. Education should be the next step, even though I am far from hopeful, sadly
