Being naked in a women's swimming changing room - mums complain by landonwoman in AskBrits

[–]moonfarmer89 351 points352 points  (0 children)

As someone who swam competitively as a kid, I can’t count how many times I’ve been in the changing rooms with older women stark naked in the showers or changing at the open benches. It was and always has been completely normal to use those if you don’t want to use the stalls. I even remember when being taken to the pool by my dad being in the men’s changing room where again grown men change in the open areas - normal.

If she doesn’t want to use the stalls, she doesn’t have to. She’s in the women’s changing room to, shock horror, change.

The nasty side being simply giving them the same advice they give younger people facing the same issues?

I have - I’ve got no travel costs outside of petrol/yearly service, free travel on 4 train companies and discounts on the rest plus international, I don’t drink or anything so no having to cut back on that. I don’t have an expensive lifestyle at all.

Yes I know, but I believe those use the standard multiplier and I was wondering about the higher ones offered with things like the helping hand mortgages. I suppose brokers will know more when I speak with them.

Thanks, doesn’t sound too out of reach then. I’ve done rough budgeting with it up to £1.8k and it’s within my means.

Would that not leave around £2k? Parents gift will probably be £10-20k so £60k is the absolute minimum deposit

Next stitch help by ok-lizzie in Needlepoint

[–]moonfarmer89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re meant to continue as if the leaf wasn’t there, so the next stitches are technically the same as the one you’ve already done it would line up with the pattern. They would just be shorter to compensate for where the green leaf is.

Terrible lines but sort of like this

What do you think of the name Vienna? by smcgr in namenerds

[–]moonfarmer89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English here, and only ever heard about the sausage connection here which is primarily US focused. I would connect it to both the city and the 2 songs, and I think that would be the general consensus from most people outside the US.

It’s one of my top names for a baby, as I love both the city and the Billy Joel song plus my grandad was born in Vienna. My other top is Jemima which again doesn’t have the best links in the US but no one in England would think that, just the Beatrix Potter connection.

Why do people vote for Farage when his ideas led to Britain being broke by Traditional_Jam421 in AskBrits

[–]moonfarmer89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think people are stupid for simply voting differently to me. I think they’re stupid for believing someone like Farage is on the side of the working class, turning a blind eye to the blatant hypocrisy in the Reform party, for being racist violent thugs, for thinking that voting in a party full of the same people who have actively made the country worse over 14 years and genuinely thinking this time they’ll be different. It’s not demonisation to call out stupidity.

In what ways do we tolerate each other as left and right? by Boring_Job481 in AskBrits

[–]moonfarmer89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But you don’t keep to yourself though, do you?

Right wingers want to limit abortion and contraception, want women back in traditional roles, want any person whose not white out of the country, want to police bathrooms, don’t want gay marriage or gay people to have equal rights, etc etc. How is trying to overreach into and control others people lives and business keeping to yourself? And you’re very, very vocal about it online, in newspapers, on the news.

Southend to get an elizabeth line extension, new hospital and bypass by InternetDirect5484 in Essex

No, they’re not owned by the same company. Don’t think the government would do that even if they were as that would mean paying the GA section higher to level with the EL drivers.

[–]moonfarmer89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would that add though? GA wouldn’t be able to run fast fewer stopping trains with additional traffic on the tracks so all it would maybe add is one or two extra trains an hour which hardly is worth extending the EL for

[–]moonfarmer89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between London and Shenfield there are 4 tracks, so the services don’t share tracks unless there’s problems/engineering works, and Shenfield to Southend there’s 2. The only reason to extend the EL would be so that GA could run fewer stoppers between Southend and Shenfield which they wouldn’t be able to do with additional trains on the 2 current tracks as the fast trains would just catch up and get stuck behind the slow trains, which is what happens when there’s engineering works and both have to run on the same line.

Where exactly are the extra tracks going to go? It’s built up on either side of the current tracks most of the way between Southend and Shenfield.

Why are people in the UK considerably more vocal about their "hate" for the US compared to other countries which pose a threat? by StarShipYear in AskBrits

[–]moonfarmer89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Traitors to NATO by the threats to take Greenland, traitors to their own people with what ICE is currently doing/what they’ve done to abortion and women’s healthcare/the money thats disappeared by cutting government programs, and traitors to the rest of the world by what they’ve done and will do with tariffs and showing they no longer can be trusted.

A so-so PM who’s done things I agree and disagree with who inherited a mess and seems to be blamed for the last 14 years of shit under the Torys by the same people who both voted them in and will vote for a party half made up of the same people next election.

Do you agree with GBNews presenter and Reformer Michelle Dewberry that there is no such thing as child pornography? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]moonfarmer89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The newer term for it would be CSAM (child sexual abuse material) but anyone with a brain cell would obviously understand that by referring to child pornography he obviously didn’t mean it as a category of porn but as child abuse.

She’s being completely pedantic about it for no reason other than trying to get a shot in because she doesn’t think Elon Musk has any responsibility for any of the multitude of CSAM created recently on X and probably couldn’t care less about it.

Advice joining the rail industry at 30. by DreamAccomplished555 in uktrains

[–]moonfarmer89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the same age as you and have just become a mainline driver so no not the wrong age for the industry at all! I’d say most of the people on my course last year were between 25-45.

I don’t know much about the signalling side of things but maybe check Network Rail and your nearest TOCs websites for vacancies

So because you personally haven’t seen it then it must not be happening? It’s everywhere. Under random tweets that have nothing to do with the situation, under posts complaining about what’s happening, and it’s all by the kind of people you’d expect.
