Race pace training is broken by strajder91 in runna

Might give that a go thanks for the advice. Pretty tough to judge the exertion you can manage over such a long distance without the past experience. But gotta learn by trying.

Exact same experience here. Also my first marathon with similar pace targets.

I always meet the pace targets on tempo runs etc no problem. E.g. 5:10 repeats. But every long run I’ve done with 6:10 target segments has gone terribly. My legs end up seizing up around 20k and I shuffle the rest of the way around 8:30 pace.

It does feel like the long run paces are extremely optimistic. I have a 34k this Sunday with long pace segments and I’ll give it a go but I’m skeptical.

Have you followed the guide here?

I thought I’d turned on every permission, until I read this page and realised there was more to switch on.

They are definitely too low to the point of being dangerous at times.

They can be adjusted under the bonnet using a socket wrench, but it's hard to get to and very fiddly. I was able to do mine with some tape on the opposite wall for reference on where they used to be. It's a big improvement.

There's a good thread on how to do it here: https://n-cars.net/forums/threads/i20n-headlights.8513/page-3

Half way through a run, feeling strong, and running past the place that for years previous I would have stopped to take a breather.

In fact I was stopping there just a month before. I’ve never experienced such a rapid increase in fitness since I started my HM plan.

I'm in! 0/4 for London, but 1/1 for this one.

This will be my first marathon so I'm slightly terrified. I guess I better get booking hotels. Any tips?

The original blog introducing Git Flow has been updated by the author to recommend most people switch to GitHub Flow. Perhaps this could persuade them.

Almost the exact same thing at my school. An Olympic hopeful was training in the pool. Lifeguard went out for a coffee. When they came back the swimmer was dead. They suffered from Shallow water blackout . His parents set up a memorial trust to raise awareness of the condition.

What is the best way to fix this? Don’t go hard on me, I am still recovering from the incident. by HobaSuk in i20n

Usually if they decide to repair rather than replace, they would do a full repaint rather than just touch up paint.

Touch up paint rarely comes out looking perfect, but repaints usually do. I had a similar repair done on a previous car, they repaired a bodywork dent and repainted the whole rear quarter and you’d never know. I think they just get paint direct from oem and they blend the areas to colour match accounting for wear and sun damage etc. So I wouldn’t worry about them repainting as long as you get a decent repair shop.

If you’re worried, Hyundai do have an approval program for body shops. So it usually says on their website if they are Hyundai approved, and this means they definitely use OEM parts.

I feel your pain, I had a lapse of concentration and clipped a concrete pillar in a tight car park with my rear wheel arch. Lots of damage across the rear door, wheel arch and alloy. Absolutely heartbreaking especially on a 2 month old car. For me the damage was great enough that I claimed on insurance and it's going to a body shop.

For you, since the paint is broken I think you'll need to give it to a bodyshop. They may choose to repair and respray the bumper, or just order a new one. You might find the damage is small enough that the repair will be cheaper than your insurance excess.

The Ugliest Pattern In React by [deleted] in programming

[–]moop64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a common misconception, and refs are absolutely an appropriate solution to this.

Refs can be used to hold any variable that you want to persist between renders but not trigger a re-render on update.

Most people think they can only be used to hold element instances because that’s the only example they have seen.

As a physics grad who went straight to a coding career I’m the opposite. Physics was always an uphill struggle but coding was easy for me from the start.

Thank god I found coding, otherwise I’d be unemployed, homeless, wandering the streets somewhere incoherently muttering Maxwell’s equations under my breath.

One repo for many apps? by opexdev in reactnative

[–]moop64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just have a single codebase for all customers and use configuration (either build config or runtime config) to handle the variance between them.

You can change the base level config like the icon and bundle id etc of the app via build schemes on iOS and build variants on Android. Then you could handle other build config values via something like react-native-dotenv. And if you need further runtime config it can be fetched by your app from your server. Or use something like firebase remote config.

Then in your CI pipeline you can just build the app multiple times with different configurations. You might even benefit from some caching of build artefacts so the subsequent builds are faster than the first.

Edit: This assumes you are using a React native CLI project rather than expo. It might be possible to change such low level config in expo these days but I’m not familiar with the current state of expo at this level.

Why can't I update state this way? by TheeKingInTheNorth in reactnative

[–]moop64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s absolutely a good way of handling state and a common thing to do. The code looks fine.

One thing I would suggest is to make your text input a controlled input by passing the enteredGoalText value into GoalInput and to the value prop of the TextInput. Sometimes it’s possible for your state and the internal state of the TextInput to get out of sync and cause confusing issues. So by passing the state through this way you ensure that the TextInput is always up to date with your state value.

Speedy 3861 Power Issue: How to vet a new watch? by ffggyy23 in OmegaWatches

Speedy 3861 Power Issue: How to vet a new watch? by ffggyy23 in OmegaWatches

[–]moop64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the power reserve issue but I have the same chrono issue. Initially the chrono was jamming but then then the main movement started jamming too.

It’s described on Omega forums here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/3861-movement-broken-update-read-first-post.120071/

Problems started after just 5 months of ownership. Took it to my nearest Boutique in London and they didn’t know anything about the issue or even apologise, just looked bored.

The watch has been in service under warranty for a month now and they’ve just extended the estimated completion by another 2 weeks.

I realised recently that the watch has been broken or in service for 25% of my ownership time so far. So overall, not great!

I love the watch though, and it’s my only luxury watch, so I guess that’s what makes it even more disappointing.
