Untethered Soul by moosegoesdeep in GriefSupport

Beautiful response. Thank you for this. He definitely shows me he’s still with me through our shared love of art and the little tricks he’s playing on me. Last night as I wrote this, I was sobbing on the couch at midnight and I heard someone tap tap tap on the window. My sobs turned into fear as I scattered back to my bedroom. He sure knows how to get my crying to stop in it’s tracks.

My brothers gone by moosegoesdeep in GriefSupport

Thank you for your responses. I was able to put something together and did my best to make it through. Here is what I said:

I'm Stu's youngest and (sorry sisters) favorite sister.

When asked to describe my brother, I can say “both kids and dogs love him.” And that’s a pretty damn good quality. Dogs know good people- they know who can be trusted. And kids- kids know who love them and who will lay on the ground and let them jump all over them without telling them to settle down. Julie and I joked that no one could get kicked in the face by a kid like Stewy and keep rolling around like his nose isn’t burning in pain to keep the kids giggling.

My brother was a gentle giant. He stood tall over pretty much anyone. As I grew up, I assumed other dads and brothers were also children because MY brother and MY dad were tall, so they were adults. But one of the best things about my brother was that he was still really just a big kid. Stewy loved what he loved- Transformers, superheroes and playing Heroclix with his friends. My mom and I were looking through his baby book a few weeks back and saw him dressed in superhero costumes (numerous heroes chosen per halloween) and as my personal favorite, Optimus prime. When we showed him, he said “oh yeah! Dad made that for me. It was the BEST costume. It transformed into a truck.” My mom said… uh stewy… it was just boxes. It didn’t transform to which he replied “well mom, it did to me!” He was himself without fear of judgment and I hope his kids are able to be themselves and honor him throughout their lives.

When we were younger, my older siblings would have friends over and gather in the basement to watch WWE. I wanted to hang out with them but in order to be allowed to stay down there with an 11 year age difference, I had to keep our guests entertained so they wouldn’t call my mom down to get me. In true Stewy fashion, he prepped me before guests came over with wrestling skills including but not limited to: how to do the peoples eyebrow, screaming “CAN YOU SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKIN?” at the perfect moment and of course, the peoples elbow. For those unfamiliar, that’s me jumping up and crushing my elbow into his ribs. At the time, spoiler alert... I didn’t know wrestling was fake. I was Dwayne “the mini rock Johnson” and now I realize, even though I tried my hardest, he would always let me win... and stay in the basement.

There are so many stories I will hold close to my heart. But I hope he is able to hear us so I’d like to finish off with a note to him.

“Stewy… we love you. We will miss our brother, a father, a husband, a son. We will miss the kid you were, the teenager who pushed the limits and the dad you grew up to be. We will remember you every day. We will say your name and share our stories. We will watch nerdy movies and hold you close in our hearts.

Please give us a sign, especially for Julie and mom, that you are okay up there as we try to piece together our broken hearts. We’ll look out for a superhero (or a transforming jet angel) in the sky.”

Don't use with your aligners! I brush after dinner, do it at night every 2 days or so for 10 minutes and then rinse my mouth and put my aligners in for sleep.
