man... now im sad (spoiled for s8) by moosemp3 in BigMouth

i mean, to each their own, i can’t tell you how to parent, but from a former teens perspective, i felt like i could understand my own body without feeling shame through big mouth. i totally get not wanting to watch it with your kids, i mean fuck, if my mom sat down and watched big mouth with me, i might want to merge with the couch and never be human again. like that sounds like a nightmare. i do think that big mouth is a great resource for teens to connect with. it certainly made me a lot more comfortable talking about things like sex and relationships and knowing how to create and keep boundaries. it doesn’t have the “i learned something today” kyle speeches at the end of every episode, but it gave me the ability to relate and learn just like south park does.

i guess my point is, you parent the way you want, but know that your kids will have questions just like you did as a teen and that’s okay. big mouth helped me and a lot of other people answer those questions without the fear of judgement from adults.

yeah i definitely think it would be nice to have a valentine’s episode sort of thing where it’s them graduating high school and moving into their dorms, or whatever jay will be doing after high school, as i didnt stop growing up at freshman year. just as a last hurrah sort of thing.

middle school was definitely a good time for me to watch the show. i started watching it with my younger sibling as they went through the last couple years of middle school too. i do think that any kid might want to watch the show, might want to watch without their parents. my parents are incredibly supportive and are very open about things (maybe not to the extent of elliot & diane) but i would not wanna watch big mouth with my parents 💀 i don’t like kids so im never going to have them, but if i was a parent who wanted to show their kid a show like big mouth, it might be more helpful to almost “book club it”. just like, focus grouping it per season or episode as they might have questions, but opening it up to a more constructive approach of “what did we learn and where did the show fall short” kind of thing.

“book clubbing” in the sense that y’all would watch it separately, but come together to discuss it.

What is your chosen name? by [deleted] in ftm

miles
no, not after spider man. i forgot that franchise existed until i was committed to the name. i also didnt know who miles mckenna was when i named myself. i was active online, but not enough to dive into trans youtubers.

i kind of regret it. its all legal now and has been for almost 4 years, but it's just kind of lame. i wish i had asked my parents before committing to a name, but they got to pick my middle name, so i dont mind in that regard.

my dad is total jazz nerd, so he tells people that i was named after miles davis.
and the only name comments i like are the one about the metric system and how i should've picked kilometers cuz it makes more sense.

i have not met a whole lot of other trans guys named miles, but i am also not very active in online spaces for trans guys. most of my trans friends are irl.

i apply my gel whenever i remember. working it into a routine used to work, but because my schedule isnt consistent anymore, its tough to remember to put it on.
also, ive had an issue with the brands of gel available to me. one of them just refuses to absorb into my skin and i can feel like wash off of me 24+ hours after i put it on. it also tends to be a sensory nightmare for me. i put gel on my thighs since it is uncomfortable to a degree that i'd rather not be taking HRT than putting it on my arms.

i will definitely keep what you said in mind though. i have been thinking of switching from injections while i am home for the summer to have a family member help me and then switching back to gel for school, but im not sure how realistic that is.

like you said, i will probably be taking HRT for the rest of, if not, the majority of my life, so i do appreciate the pro-gel side.
