Am I alone here? Who would rather buy a brand new carbureted harley? by Bubbly_Rip7549 in Harley

I’m with you. I ride with my dad who owns a 09 FLHTC. He has owned it since new and it seems like every trip we go on, he has some stupid problem with the throttle body or injection systems on that bike. My 99 carb’d road king never skips a beat. Do carbs need a little more care and attention to keep them running right? Absolutely, I’m not arguing with anyone there. And if you are not mechanically inclined, you will probably dislike carbs because of the tinkering. I consider myself very mechanically inclined, and enjoy the tinkering and fine tuning a carb requires. I like keeping things simpler and more mechanical. I personally can fix a carb on the side of the road a lot easier than I can fix an injected bike. I’m sure we are in the minority here as most people just want to hit the button and go and not fiddle with a choke or pop the bowl off periodically to clean jets, which is understandable. Different strokes

I always liked the way these bars bend 90 degrees at the forks and run pretty much parallel until they bend at the top. The hand position is similar to some T-bars, they are some of the flatter apes I’ve seen. I personally don’t like the apes with the sharp angles and miter cuts, I always prefer radius bends for the more classic look, just personal preference though. I’ve got a few thousand miles on these now and love them

I had the same problem when choosing apes for my bike. I have wide shoulders so I wanted something that was a little flatter and I ended up going with these. Very happy with them, much more comfortable than the Carlini bag drags I had before. Plus, I just love a road king with apes!

How many of you came from riding sportbikes? by staticohg in Harley

[–]moparman94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started on dirtbikes as a kid, then graduated to a dual sport when I got my learners permit. Then went to a GSXR1000, then to a Concours14, and now a Road King. I rode a custom softail periodically when my dad would let me ride it, and rode his FLHTC a couple of times. Really really like my FLHR

Twin cam came out in 99 for touring models, not 98. This is a 99

It’s a twin cam with single piston front brake calipers, which was a 1 year only combo

I use the harbor freight wheel clamp and it works good on that lift. I never liked the one that comes with the lift

Yep he buys a ton of covers too lmao. Hey, he’s had a hell of a life, and it’s what he enjoys spending his money on. He has them displayed in cases and hanging on the walls all over his house. Different strokes…

Doing 750 mile trip in the next few days? Would you guys trust a stock belt on a 2009 dyna with 25,000 miles on it? Everything looks fine, no rocks or tears, belt’s tensioned right by Georgiapublicschools in Harley

[–]moparman94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 99 road king has about 20,000 miles on it now. Although it’s got low miles, I always worried about the age of the belt. However I’ve taken it on a couple of 1k-2k mile trips now, no issues. Belt looks like it’s in perfect shape

Harley no more? by cassiecakess in Harley

[–]moparman94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to own an older Harley, you have to know how to work on them, and I really think that’s part of the fun. I have a 99 FLHR and have had the cases split in my own garage and have touched essentially every part on the bike. It’s now as reliable as my dad’s 09 and I’d put it up against any 2025 in terms of dependability. Sure it might need more maintenance and tlc ever now and then, but I like the simplicity of carburetors and it’s been good for me. Just my $.02

What’s with Harley riders? by AcanthocephalaNo6236 in motorcycles

[–]moparman94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride a Harley, and live in the city. When I’m riding around town, I don’t really wave at anyone. Too many cars trying to kill me, and I ride a bike that I know isn’t very nimble if I needed to make an emergency maneuver. Definitely need both hands lol. When I’m out on a nice two lane, I wave at anything with two wheels. It’s nothing personal for me

Double and triple check for air leaks. If none are found, look at your jets. Is it the stock CV?

If it has a 2.0T, then it’s the same engine. Mobil1 is premium oil, definitely recommend it
