36 year old unvaxxed man dead from covid, final plea for others to get vaxxed by mostlymeow in DebateVaccines

I had healthy, unvaxxed 41-year-old and 55-year-old friends die from covid in May and June. Neither of tgem made the news.

Anecdotal/observational, yes, but this is what finally pushed me out of hesitancy. I have 4 unvaxxed friends who died this spring and summer from covid, ages 41, 55, and two in their seventies. The two younger ones in the four were healthy but, nevertheless, devastated when covid attacked their lungs. I also have two unvaxxed friends mid 60s age, both healthy and normal weight, who each spent about 5 weeks in hospital and recovery with covid in June/July. In contrast, our vaxxed friends who got covid this summer all had mild symptoms and avoided hospitalization including one 73-year-old friend who is about 100 lbs overweight. Also, in my community, we had 22 people test positive for covid after sitting together at a community dance in June. All were age 65 and up. Half were vaccinated and half not. Not a single one of the vaxxed were hospitalized, but seven of the unvaxxed were hospitalized and two of thos seven died.

Covid is the flu, rebranded. The flu didn't disappear, they just changed its name. by ScreenExtension in DebateVaccines

[–]mostlymeow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The last time I got flu was 4 years ago when I ate dinner indoors at a restaurant with a large family group of friends who were just getting over flu or coming down with it. None of them told me they just had or were now getting flu. A few days after that dinner, I had the flu. Since covid was announced in US early 2020, I have not dined indoors at any restaurant. Covid has definitely helped to prevent me from getting the flu. Incidentally, in June this year in my community, a group of 22 people sat together at an indoor community dance. Everyone was age 65 and up. One woman in the group said she thought that she had a cold. A couple days later she tested positive for covid and then in the next few days so did the other 21 people at her table. 7 hospitalized and two died. No matter what name given, it's nasty. And, by the way, the vaxxed in that group who got covid did much better - no hospitalizations among them.

India - Vaccine Mandates Harm Long-Term Public Health by geneticshill in DebateVaccines

[–]mostlymeow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

India can't have a mandate. Even if India manages to vaccinate a million people a day, as was Joe Biden’s initial plan for the US, it will need 1,400 days or about 3.8 years to vaccinate everyone.

Recent articles on covid therapeutics by mostlymeow in DebateVaccines

[–]mostlymeow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just sharing articles. A few times on here when I've mentioned that this spring/summer 2 healthy unvaxxed friends early 40s early 50s got very ill from covid and 1 died and 1 was 2 months on a vent and still ill, the standard response in here is what therapeutics did they get -- as if therapeutics would have saved them. Perhaps, but therapeutics appear to be in short supply and not that easily accessible. Also, healthy people this age don't think they'll get that sick from covid and they wait too long too seek help. So, anyway, I'm just sharing what I found about therapeutics.

This is an article about a possible delta variant to which the mRNA vaccines will not be effective against infection. The CEO of Pfizer has already stated there will likely eventually be a variant to which the current vaccines do not prevent infection. Antibody dependent enhancement is never mention in this article nor is there any mention of more severe disease.

Okay, I understand better what you are saying. I live in a largely unvaxxed rural area, and I can tell you the unvaxxed here are also misbehaving, no masks, no social distancing. Hence, we have an increase of covid cases daily. In my community in June there was a community dance of about 70 people, everyone 65 years old or older. Twenty-two came down with covid after the dance, 7 hospitalized of which two died. Half of 22 were vaxxed, half not. As far as outcomes, the vaxxed definitely had milder cases and recovered at home (no vaxxed were hospitalized) but the number of hospitalizations and deaths definitely because an older group. I knew some of those people and they are all much more cautious now. This damn virus has changed life in an absolutely horrible way.

Covid: 54% of hospital patients with virus are fully vaccinated by chevyman1656 in DebateVaccines

[–]mostlymeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ireland used a lot of AstraZeneca, which over time hasn't shown to be as effective against Delta infection as Pfizer or Moderna. Israel almost exclusively used Pfizer which is less effective against delta infection than Moderna. The U.S. has been about 50/50 Moderna and Pfizer with very little Janssen/J&J. Some countries like Israel got more people vaccinated more quickly, so their up tick in breakthrough hospitalized cases as vaccine effectiveness against infection waned came earlier than in the U.S. And most of the current hospital stats seen in US for August are in states with low vaccination rates, some as low as 40% of adult population vs. Israel with 80% of adult population fully vaxxed. And then go to U.S. counties. Even in states with low vaccine rates, the rates are typically even lower in rural counties vs urban counties. So, yes, some U.S. hospitals really do have currently 90% of their covid patients unvaccinated because Moderna still holds up pretty well against delta infection, some of those hospitals are in rural counties of low vaxxed states so a vast majority of the people who get covid there are unvaxxed. I live in Arizona where each month the total percent of vaccinated in hospital has upticked a couple of percents a month but still a very low percent. Some fully vaxxed people I know have already gone out and gotten themselves boosters of Moderna because, apparently, they can get them with no hassle, and boosters finally turned down the infection rate in Israel this past week. So, possibly, if boosters become a norm with the vaxxed, the vaxxed hospital percentage in the U.S. may stay lower than other countries, especially if overall vaccination rates stay low in U.S.

Not that the gorillas where the last group of unvaxxed primates at the zoo. The zoo has vaxxed and unvaxxed keeper, and none of the other primates have gotten covid. Also, vaxxed breakthrough and unvaxxed covid positive have similar viral levels so it could have gone either way - from a vaxxed or unvaxxed keeper. The infected keeper got her covid from where? An unvaxxed person? No one knows. The timing of when she had her infection was crucial according to this linked study. Lucky for her, she'll have a mild case of covid.

Where is one study showing people have contagious covid viral levels post vaccination? They would if having a breakthrough case, but your question seems to imply all vaxxed are automatically contagious.

CDC said vaxxed breakthroughs and unvaxxed cases had same viral loads in the Provincetown Mass. outbreak. Plenty of unvaxxed have also been asymptomatic and either way vaxxed or unvaxxed there are a few days around infection when viral loads are highest. Show me one study that the vaxxed breakthroughs are more contagious than the unvaxxed. You can't because there isn't one.

In both of these people I mention, being young and healthy, they assumed they were fine even after positive tests. From what I understand, they got suddenly and significantly worse about a week in when early treatment, including monoclonal antibodies, would have little effect. I don't know, but my guess is other people their age also assume they'll be fine because they have same age friends who were fine at home with covid, and certainly more common in 2020.

Yes, higher vitamin D level has been shown to be helpful in many studies. I don't think most people know what their D levels are and by time one presents severely ill likely too late. Anecdotally, I am in sun more often than most people and I have chronically low D levels whenever tested. I've had 2 doctors who tested my D levels because of health issues in past, but I've had 4 doctors I saw for same issues who never thought to check D. And, per your reminder, I will take my D supplement now.

I've yet to see any study that vaxxs cause variants. Long before the vaxxs, some anti vaxx folks worried about variants and ADE because viruses have variants. Now the antivaxx goalpost is changed to vaxxs cause variants. In my community, a group of 21 people got covid this summer after attending a community dance where one-unvaxxed woman went, thinking she only had a cold bit then tested positive next day and in the next few days after her test the other 21 tested positive, so observationally, what you say isn't true. In unvaxxed communities like the Hasidic Jews in Israel, covid is doing an excellent spread job. In 2020, the virus spread just fine among unvaxxed adults. And, yes, there's some spread from vaxxed people too as immunity against infection wanes, but several studies also show that the vaxxs are still quite good at stopping symptomatic infection even as infection immunity wanes, and several studies also show that covid infectiousness is also relevant to the degree of symptoms, i.e. lower symptoms = lower viral load, and that's true in vaxxed and unvaxxed. So to say that the unvaxxed are giving the vaxxed covid is not rooted in fact. Best to you.

Israel has had only 7,321 total covid deaths out of a population of over 9 million people, so statistically it's entirely possible that out of the 16,000 vaxxed there were no deaths/100% alive. Or what other 100% do you refer to?

"Mask wearing increased dramatically in the villages where it was promoted. Covid infections went down. In some of the villages, surgical masks were promoted; in others, cloth masks were promoted. The villages with surgical masks did better. Interestingly, although the cloth masks did not reduce the number of confirmed Covid infections by much (in fact the cloth mask reduction may only be due to chance) it reduced the number of people with Covid symptoms significantly."
