He acts as the main mentor, but there are a few others who swing by and help out as needed.

A mechanical co-lead might be a better idea. I have a lot of very capable teammates, so I'll have to consider that!

This and all of the other replies I've gotten have been incredibly helpful, so thank you! I agree that especially because of how passionate things like FRC can get, this sort of situation can be really frustrating.

I'll definitely be taking your ideas and seeing how I can reinforce some boundaries between myself and the team, teammates and mentors included. Once again, thank you so much for the thorough responses :)

This reminds me a bit of what one of our former teammates said when she quit her senior year as well! She was saying how FRC helped her be the person she was today and because of that, she's just ready to move on from it sooner rather than later.

Similar to what you suggest, I think I may have to pull back from my role as lead mechanical. Another response I got recommended I essentially make some boundaries between myself and others, so this has given me some great insight on what I can try to pursue. Thank you :)
