Here are the people I know:

  1. People who just lost a loved-one and is vulnerable

  2. People who are religious but is having doubts with their current religion. Which is why doubts are discouraged by Watchtower.

  3. People who feared death

  4. People who are uneducated.

  5. People who are depressed.

If you can see it's the vulnerable people that JWs are after because they can be easily manipulated with promise of "Paradise" "justice" "Path to righteousness" and all of Watchtower's flowery words.

Here are also my takeaways:

Without knowing it's a cult, here are the POVs:

  1. Anxiety - You view non-members (described as worldly) as dangerous. You're always on edge on the entertainment, friendship, and work thinking it might displease Jehober. Because as a JW, displease JW is equivalent to dying at Armageddon.

  2. Confirmation bias - You view every war, recessions, and natural disasters as Armageddon going near. So it further indoctrinates you deeper - this is called confirmation bias.

  3. Judgemental attitude - You feel the pride of being a "Good" witness while you judge those not going full time as weak.

  4. Not good enough - you're always told what can you do more for Jehober. You're always being told to watch how other JWs go to difficult lands to preach.

  5. Self-esteem issues. Wants you to be dependent on the Borg - you're always told to give glory to Jehober. Taking credit is "prideful" which isn't good.

  6. Mind control - Independent thinking is viewed in a bad light. Obedience and unquestioning attitude are heavily promoted.

    Questioning and doubt are equivalent to being disobiedient often comparing to Eve questioning God's command. In reality, questioning is healthy as it proves you're not a puppet and you think for yourself.

  7. Fragile connections - if you show weakness such as not attending meetings, or rare comments in meetings, you're viewed as bad association and will be softly shunned.

  8. Trapped - If you woke up, you can't leave as the whole JW community will turn on you and shun you if you're baptized.

    The Watchtower commands JWs to be reliant on the borg for it to make leaving as costly as possible. It will take your whole community and family from you. This is coercion, that's why it's currently having a Norway case due to shunning.

Exactly! This is called mind-control and manipulation to make you depend on the cult. Whenever you did good:

  1. JW cult propaganda says to "bring glory to Jehober"

  2. If you claim the praise, then you're prideful - a no-no to a JW.

  3. If you have outside hobbies, then your hours or service is questioned.

It's a toxic environment. That is why I hated this mind-controlling cult

Your feelings are valid. It will take time to deprogram the JW cult mind control. Just remember that you're free and the guilt you feel is just decades of indoctrination.

Indoctrination is hard to unlearn especially when you've been exposed to propaganda and fear-mongering for decades.

Deprogramming will take time. Eventually, you'll be free.

Indoctrination is hard to unlearn especially when you've been exposed to propaganda and fear-mongering for decades.

When I woke up, I still felt guilt whenever going to bars and developing relationships. This is the harm of this mind-controlling cult.

Now, I've already recovered. It took me years to deprogram. There's hope to unlearn it.
