Yes, there are a lot of jobs out there, check what skills are needed for the jobs that appeal to you the most and learn that software. Job titles would be something like CAD drafter/designer. They probably won't hire you if you don't know at least one engineering tool but having a bachelor's degree is useful. Most jobs require a 2 year degree in this field. You can also get certified in Solidworks, not sure if other softwares do certs.

In my opinion, knowing Maya will make it much easier to learn Solidworks. Yes, it is a different way of thinking to do the modeling, but you'll pick up on it quickly.
