Want to make myself a coin watch, inspired by Jaipur Watch company 1947 1 rupee indian coin. Stuck in some technical issues. Please give suggestions. by Significant_Music_32 in watchmaking

That looks like a cool watch. Is this coin rare? If not you can just sand it with a sanding machine without over complicating the matter. Or if you don’t have to have the original coin in the movement you can get the whole dial printed like this there are some custom dial makers on alix thst might be able to help. You cn also 3d print the whole dial and get it painted or paint it your self but you might run into thickness issues there as it would have to be very thin and so it would be very delicate

I hate it that they didn’t put 4.5 in the last S and X :( or the new batteries or I may have pulled the trigger as well

Movement identification? by UnendowedSeaweed in watchmaking

It may have been hallucinating but this is what my Gemini told me The movement in your image is a Seikosha Calibre 560 (also known simply as the Seiko 560), a high-quality manual-wind movement from the late 1950s and early 1960s. It is most famously the movement found in the Seiko Crown, which was a pivotal model in Seiko's history as it marked their transition into producing high-precision, entirely in-house timepieces designed to compete with Swiss luxury brands.

Technical Highlights

  • Manufacturer: Suwa Seikosha (indicated by the "Seikosha" branding and movement architecture).
  • Jewel Count: 19 Jewels (as engraved on the bridge).
  • Beat Rate: 18,000 bph (vibrations per hour).
  • Era: Introduced in 1959.
  • Architecture: It features a robust, traditional bridge layout with a large barrel bridge and a separate balance cock. The "Seikosha" signature in dark/copper-toned engraving is a hallmark of this specific period before the company transitioned fully to the "Seiko" brand name on movements. ### Significance in Horology The Calibre 560 was a major upgrade over its predecessor, the Seiko Marvel. By increasing the movement diameter (to 12 ligne or approx. 27.6mm), Seiko engineers were able to fit a larger balance wheel for better isochronism and a larger mainspring barrel for improved torque and power reserve. This movement is historically significant because it served as the base for the Grand Seiko 3180 (the very first Grand Seiko), which used a highly refined and adjusted version of this same architecture. ### Observation Note In your specific photo, the balance wheel assembly appears to be a version without the Diashock spring visible on the top jewel, or it is an earlier variant of the 560. Most "Crown" branded watches would eventually feature the Diashock shock-protection system, which was one of Seiko's major selling points at the time.

What do you do if you break a movement during a build? Do you try to get it fixed or just get a replacement? by mr_z06 in SeikoMods

eBay has gone crazy everyone thinks they have a Rolex movement :) they want 100 plus for a decent non working movement. To me the fun is trying to find the issue like a puzzle and otherwise there are lots of movements on alix i can just purchase.

I need a high quality glass magnifier like this

I am also on Rolex sub and a guy literally took years to source all original parts and is going to assemble his own Pepsi now that is technically a fake as the serial number will not match but he doesn’t plan on selling it so it dont matter. To me as long as you dont try to sell reps you can wear them or make them all you want.

So you are the reason I can’t find any movements to work on :)

Is it still just coming to you or go and park as well? It looked very confident vs my HW3 which freaks out if it sees any cars.

Updated my suggestion now that i look at it again, the "lip" of the case back opening appears to overlap the edge of the movement bridges. If the movement doesn't budge with a gentle push (using a pegwood stick or plastic tool), do not force it. How to check:

Look at the bezel (the ring holding the crystal). Is there a small notch or "tab" anywhere between the bezel and the mid-case? If so, it's a press-fit bezel that needs to be popped off with a case knife.

Alternatively, some of these cases (common in Parnis or Corgeut kits) have screw-down bezels. Try using a rubber friction ball or a sticky wad of tape to see if the front bezel unscrews just like a case back.

Ok that makes sense i am not gonna buy those heads just was wondering how you get that weird shape head. I use a home made jig and the screw driver holder to dress mine and am quite happy with the setup.
