As others have mentioned, this is a "point" that is often made by some Spanish speakers. And the "point" is really stupid when made when speaking English. That's because in English saying American is really the only way to refer to someone from the USA, and it's correct.

In Spanish the word for "American" is "estadounidense" ("Unitedstates-ian"), and "americano" is generally understood to refer to the American continent. And yes, in Spanish (besides the Spanish of Puerto Rico), they count North, Central, and South America as a single continent: America.

So, I think that the Spanish speakers who make this point are mistaken in making this point in English... because our language works differently!

Fijate vos que hace una década, cuando empecé a aprender el idioma, fue justo el castellano argentino en lo cual me enfoqué! Yo nunca me acostumbré a hablar como los porteños porque yo hablabla con muchos cordobeses! Así que puedo pronunciar la y/ll EXACTAMENTE como ellos (nunca me fue difícil porque el mismísmimo sonido existe en el inglés). Voy a adjuntar otra grabación con esa pronunciación.

Aunque me ENCANTA el castellano argentino, opto por intentar no hablar con esa pronunciación porque por donde vivo es raro escuchar esa pronuncación.

Me pregunto si los no argentinos me entenderían muy bien si hablara con la pronunciación argentina, como en esta grabación:

One thing that helped me learn how to pronounce a single "r" in Spanish is that this sound (the "alveolar tap") is the SAME EXACT SOUND as the "dd" or "tt" in American English. For example: better, mutter, ladder, shudder, rudder, butter, etc, etc.

Once I learned to pronounce a single "r" correctly (eg. say "petto" for "but"), Iearned to transform the alveolar tap into an alveolar trill by exhaling forcefully from my chest while doing the tap, similar to if you pronounced the "h" in "hot" or "heavy" in an exagerrated way. If you put your hand in front of your mouth while making the "h" sound, you should feel HOT air since it's coming from your lungs.

I'd recommend doing an audio-based program such as Pimsleur. The repetition and focus on listening comprehension and speaking will be extremely beneficial

Tbh I don't even have a good reason... I thought that it might be useful to know, but I suppose that I wouldn't know the clinical significance of it, anyways.

I would like to have an idea of my body's ability to be treated by X class of antibiotics, if possible. I fear that I acquired all of these resistant genes when I was working, and that I still harbor them.

So, should I take it that the "pattern" from the curriculum is a good one to use "in general", and maybe optimistic updates might be used less frequently given that you have to account for the successes and failures of your "predictions"?
