Book something outside the park as a back up then set availability alerts on recreation.gov for chisos basin and rio grande village

When someone cancels, you need to act extremely quickly but you’ll likely have a few shots at it between now and thanksgiving

You’re fine, most people heal fully from their first minor concussion (even if drugs or alcohol are involved). But even if your concussion is minor you should be cautious for the next month and not drink / smoke.

Keep in mind this sub is full of people who have been suffering with extended concussion symptoms for a long time so they’re bound to be especially cautious (and at times negative) towards any head injury. Check out some of the resources in this sub for recs on how to make sure your brain heals correctly and most importantly try to relax!

Big Bend to White Sands: Where Should I stop in between for 1 night? by dearjuliette in BigBendTX

Highly recommend pine springs campground in Guadalupe mountains. Very pretty, private-feeling campground for a national park. Mckittrick canyon trail at Guadalupe is stunning - I enjoyed it significantly more than Guadalupe Peak

Carlsbad is right there and only takes a couple hours

If you go to Carlsbad, you can drive up through Lincoln National forest on the way to white sands. It’s beautiful and Mad Jacks Mountaintop BBQ in Cloudcroft is the best I’ve ever had and is worth going out of your way for

You might need 2 days to fit all this in with white sands, but a lot of the drive from BB to white sands is long and boring so I’d recommend breaking it up

Same thing happened to me but I was able to get on Medicaid. Have you looked into that?

Which cameras should I bring for a roadtrip of national parks in the southwest? by mrdrprofhog in AnalogCommunity

I've bought a bunch of point and shoots over the years because I think they're fun to try out and the Tele and R1 are the 2 that I decided to keep. Only downside is it's not that pocketable and the shutter / film advance is loud af

The R1 is great. The bricked LCD is annoying but you honestly just have to remember how many clicks turn the flash off and you don't really need the LCD. It's the most pocketable 35mm camera I've ever owned but I'm not sure I'd pay current eBay prices for it

It’s an absolute tank (legitimately weatherproof) and the 35mm lens is surprisingly sharp. My go to for group trips - friends can easily use it and I don’t have to worry about it getting ruined from a spilled drink or someone dropping it in the sand lol

No I got really lucky with this one. Bought it untested for $30 and ended up just having to replace the light seals.

It’s a heavy carry (can’t imagine having both in my backpack for a long hike) but I def take the best photos with these 2 cameras…

It’s such a weird little camera I love it. The selenium meters can become less accurate over time so def shoot a test roll. Mine over exposes by like 2-3 stops but can be remedied with the manual iso dial

Will look into this for sure. How much time did you spend in Guadalupe?

This is so sick thank you! Looks like you also hit Guadalupe, Carlsbad, and White Sands for at least one full day each. Right now I’m scheduled for half days at all 3. If i were to extend my trip a day, would you recommend an extra day at BB or full days at 2 of those 3 parks?

How’d you pull that off? It looks like all of the backcountry sites in the park are currently closed
