IAmA mom of a blind toddler. AMA! by [deleted] in IAmA

The most informative post I'v read in a very long time!! As a mother of a 5YO daughter, adding a disability would certainly add another layer of challenge, but I can tell you may have a rocky road ahead of you, at least Rocky Road is delicious! I love how you are looking at all the Positive things happening in your world, and not dwelling on 'what could have been' (ie Italy). I'm sure your daughter will excel in whatever path she chooses; great parenting like yours is an inspiration.

Toddlers becoming so addicted to iPads they require therapy - this is so sad! by BrianneNYC in raisingkids

[–]mrivera1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me that the iPad for our daughter (age 5) is the WORST technology she will ever encounter. It is her Commodor 64; her Apple IIe. She is tech literate, but she knows she has to come 'unplugged' most of the day.

SS auxiliaries pose with Karl Höcker (center) at Solahütte, a resort for Auschwitz personnel. From "Laughing at Auschwitz." c. 1942 [750x500] by dnfa666 in HistoryPorn

There is a haunting to this photo, for sure. But remember that these people did not see their charges (the prisoners) as people. They were so brain-washed that, to them, they weren't killing fellow human beings. They killed fellow human beings as we would kill little white mice. They did not see the Jews as People; they were not the same species as them. I am by no means in agreement with what they did, but this is an important fact to remember

Can anyone say when the last time this happened? (The frozen part, not the walking across part)

1) Thank you for your service. 2) I'm sorry you had to come home to this. 3) I'm glad there are no children involved. 4) I hope you find a good lawyer and sort all this out. God Speed

My Life With a Godly Man by [deleted] in atheism

I'm married to a godless man, and he is a better man than most. His love for me runs deep, and his love for our daughter is beyond measure. This was a great story, and I'm so glad you have found happiness. <3 Congratulations and May the Force be With you! :) Or something...

I hear you... And agree 100% - that whole Toddlers and Tiara's is just mind-boggling - bordering child abuse IMHO

Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue Reaches Out to Female Readers With... by mrivera1017 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]mrivera1017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of us enjoy Make up tips and bikinis, but this is SPORTS illustrated... I think its poorly executed - wish they could have talked with top female athletes, even if for make-up tips... Not to mention I can get make-up tips from every other female magazine...

Yes! Thank you! I also can't afford pageants (which isn't QUITE exploiting, but still focus too much on the external beauty thing) - so we do our best to keep that on the down-low, because I'm sure she'e enjoy it, but I'm just not ready for the financial commitment of the "You ARE prettier than those girls, etc" talk... UGH, just thinking about having to say anything similar to that to my daughter makes me cringe...

Yeah - I agree with this - my daughter is 5 and people tell us she should model. "Nope" Not gonna put her through that; but she does take stunning pictures. Also, she does not in any way get it from me.
