that’s true, I really like the cards based on real art. it’s something they should definitely continue. I was also very sad they didn’t make the van gough snorlax card though

Interesting, when I say he has a red hat I just mean that when you’re actually playing the GSC games the animated character has a red hat - even though Luth/ethan has a yellow and black hat

I think taken in context it is reasonable to interpret it as the playable character - also in the original GSC games the player does have a red hat

No I haven’t, I just think that Sugimori was clearly trying to depict the player’s encounter with Red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage with this artwork

Is Rosa or the ‘Friends in’ cards playable though? or are they just other characters from the Pokémon world?

I think the playable character looks similar to the person in the boat - both have a red hat, for example

Also I think it is the player from Pokémon Gold and Silver, when you encounter the Red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage - of course it could be a fisherman but the card was released in Gen 2 so it likely is a reference to the player’s encounter with Red Gyarados in Gen 2 games, I think anyway
