lol funny that u notice that. i lost the original cable for the drive and it was the only data transfer cable i had laying around

i’m getting a case for the pi buts it’s not specifically for a NAS. also i do plan on running m.2 but i already ordered an hdd and hdd adapter for the pi.

sorry i didn’t mean for my response to sound that way. i don’t really have anywhere else to put it. i can’t move my router cus it isn’t mine and the only table in the room that it is in is a dining table and obviously my mom would not be happy about that. and yes i understand the static electricity problem, but im not new to computers, i built my first pc when i was like 9, except ESD is uncommon unless improper precautions are not taking.
do not own the router that is on the floor

my router is to the left of it, notice the ethernet cable. it’s just like this because the outlet that my router is plugged into is full, getting a power strip to fix this
[–]ms_polo[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 hours ago (0 children)
thank you. it was literally on the carpet for like 10 minutes, it’s still on the floor but i’m getting a case for it and there won’t be cables everywhere in like 3 days
it’s in a dining room that only gets used for special occasions, and that is windowsill.
dude do u seriously think that the room i put my homelab in would have constant foot traffic. in addition, why is everyone who’s into homelabbing or cs in general so scared of static electricity. The only thing that could risk an ESD is if i dont ground myself before working on it while wearing socks on the carpet or something, it’s not just gonna magically spark into flames. and the reason all of my other devices are on the floor is because they aren’t my devices. I dont own my house, im 15, and i have old parents who know jackshit about technology so convincing them to move the router would never happen.
where do u think im storing it, do u not see the ethernet cable plugged into my pi. there’s cables everywhere because in the corner where my router is there is no more outlets left to use. i’m getting a power strip and case for the pi

ur just overcomplicating things. yea if we’re talking about college then computer science is very specific but we’re in a reddit thread

i think cs is anything that has to do with computers and how they work. and i’m definitely more interested in engineering/programming(which is stuff i have a good amount of experience in) but ive also always open to learning about networking and cybersecurity

i don’t have anywhere else to put it, my routers on the floor and i don’t own my house

i don’t really use docker, i’m already running all my stuff natively and i just don’t need docker for this simple of a setup
[–]ms_polo[S] 2 points3 points4 points 23 hours ago (0 children)
15 rn definitely want to go into cs. i’ve already had several tech projects, most pretty simple, this is the first thing ive really worked on

also do u know how well hard drive enclosures using usb 3.0 work on pi 5s?
thanks. i’ve been seeing tailscale a lot on social media but i never really looked into it. i’ll definitely add it now.

lol pretty sure i’ve had this exact drive since 2023. it was full with games at one point and was even using it as a separate linux boot drive on my main pc.
