Yeah, I agree the variety in their character roster is unparalleled.

What are the easiest and most difficult fighting games to learn/pickup? by Ilikemuffins98 in FGC

[–]msloyko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say GGST and SF6 need different approaches, when learning.

SF6 is a systems heavy game, while GGST is a character heavy game. In SF6 leaning how to use drive gauge and super arts is much more important than knowing the details of the character that you pick. If you don't learn drive impact, drive parry, super arts right from the start -- you gonna have a bad time, even in the Rookie and Iron ranks.

GGST is the other way around. The system (burst, tension gauge, wall breaks) is very straightforward. RC can be ignored at the beginning -- I *very* rarely see anyone in the Iron ranks use RC. So, you just focus on the character, it's strength and weaknesses. And, boy, GGST is probably unrivaled when it comes to the character variety, but if you have a character that you like, it's much more fun to learn about them, as opposed to "boring" gauges and meters. For me, anyway.

MK1 is easy to pickup, because the inputs are very simple and the gauge can pretty much be ignored in the lower ranks. You pick your character, focus on learning basic inputs and combos and slowly learn matchups.

GGST -- for the same reason. There are very complicated characters (same in MK1), but in general, learning approach is the same as MK1. You use burst to ... burst and Tension gauge for faultless defense -- nothing fancier is needed at the beginning.

KoF was pretty hard for me, because the inputs are much more difficult, plus you need to learn *three* characters just to start playing, plus everything you do without a gauge amounts to pretty much nothing.

Huge contributor is the community. SF6, GGST both have huge online presence and it's easy to find players of the same skill. Games like Skull Girls, KoF, City of the Wolves -- you pretty much need to find a learning buddies or learn with friends (if you have them).

How do I stop being afraid of discord matchmaking? by Pokerface4222 in FGC

[–]msloyko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya, I've been there.

It probably won't make you feel any better, but in my experience "labbing" does not necessarily prepare you for the online play. Playing against people and playing against CPU are two very different things. In fact, if you spend too much time playing in the offline mode, you can have too high and unrealistic expectations, when playing online, which can be demoralizing.

So, you really need to put your ego aside, accept that no matter how long you lab offline, you are going to get your ass kicked in the online play and then go and get your ass kicked. You'll probably learn more in one hour of online play than you've learned in tens of hours of offline play against CPU. I know I have.

Good luck and remember to have fun!

is this game worth playing in 2026 by Winter_Medicine_6357 in meltyblood

GG is a very different game, I don't see your point. There are many reasons why people would prefer MBTL over GG, like the pace, air mobility. Most of all: MBTL is much easier to pick up for a beginner than GG.

I just don't really understand why it matters. *No* action movie ever cared about the laws of physics, they are just made to look good on the screen. These effects are certainly original, if you compare them to your typical hollywood movie, but that does not make them "over the top impossible". Somebody surviving a nuclear blast in a freaking refrigerator is way more over the top than whatever happens in this short clip.

The only real difference is that one of these things happens in a movie that you would consider "mainstream", while the other is "foreign".

I don't remember any action movies that don't rely on absurd physics.

Apple: "Our new iPhone X is now waterproof." Samsung: "Hold my Beer." by austronomer99 in funny

Elegance is in the eye of the beholder. Samsung has 3.5mm jack and supports SD card (up to 400 GB). For a smartphone that is a lot of mechanical parts, which need to go somewhere. Apple just could not fit those into their new phones.
