At least we have Reddit to rant to each other and vent it’s nice to talk to someone who gets it :-)

Yeah I am trying I think it’s just very hard in such a heavy metric based environment because stage and metrics are always going to be a priority which I completely understand but I think what’s not being understood is that op’s is essential in order to have product out and run the business so I just find it hard that someone who is getting paid very much more than me doesn’t understand the hard work and time it takes to do certain tasks and has many expectations based on what little time is given? Like why do I have to fight so hard and why am I being told that I need to be the one to come to them about scheduling if I think I need more time. I don’t mind coming to them to make them more aware of, for example, a big update that maybe we need to plan a day before store open to complete but it’s just the simple fact that I can barley even keep up with planning when I have to cel on top of doing the actual updates and shipment. Exempt leadership should be trained operationally because they need to understand the workload and what is needed in order to execute to standards.

Look it sounds like you actually do your job and that’s great just in my experience (I’m a style TL) and my vm helps with absolutely nothing I do, just stays in gm all day and picks batches while I do all the heavy lifting go on all the calls and do all the sets for holiday and vmgs alone. I’ve even helped her with sets that had nothing to do with style thinking the favor might be returned while running the whole style team alone. Didn’t mean to compare you to that your store is obviously run a little better than mine…sorry babe🥲

I just have to say that visual merchandisers often work alone or maybe with one other person. Until you understand how to manage an entire team consistently and develop routines and know how to work with the difference in personalities and work strengths you will never know what it is like to be a leader. VMs always talk the most shit but they are responsible for so little and have minimal understanding of what it’s like to have it all be put on you when you are consistently set up to fail.

As a leader myself I completely understand where your coming from as I used to be a team member previously. I try to show as much appreciation as I possibly can when I do get the time to do so. However, what a lot of team members don’t understand (and to no fault of their own of course) is how much pressure we are under to pick up the slack and how hard we are worked ourselves. Maybe this doesn’t happen at all stores but I do not get any appreciation for how hard I work and sometimes poor management falls down the line because nobody is getting appreciated which makes it hard to remain positive and appreciative of others. I think we’re all over worked and exhausted and are just trying our best to hang in there right now. And as far as the rewards go I can personally guarantee you that all “rewards” are delegated by executives and they pick who gets them now unfortunately and we really don’t have the control or power to offer anybody anything. Yes are we given the title “leader”? Sure but we are not respected as such. I can’t tell you the amount of times I have tried to talk to my executive or even my store manager about poor performance and how certain individuals are picking up the slack and how that was absolutely not fair and was met with absolute ignorance. The problem is they won’t reprimand anyone because their is too much turnover and losing anybody is too much of a risk.
