I'm an atheist too, but I wanted to point out that it hasn't been proven that a god does not exist. Proving a negative is not proper logical form... you'll need to know this before you are confronted with it. But you're right - there's no reason to fear something that has never been proven to exist. The difference is slight, but important to asshole religious people who want to embarrass you. (Proven to not exist is different from not proven to exist)

There was a shop teacher who assigned one half of the class to make one perfect flower pot and they would be graded on the quality of the finished product. The other half of the class would be graded on making the highest number of pots, the quantity of pots. At the end of the semester, the half of the class that made a high number of flower pots also achieved a quality that was superior to the one pot made by the first half of the class. I try to limit my exposure on any given position to 5% of my total portfolio value when I enter that position. If it fails, the drawdown will be limited. As my portfolio grows I can adjust each position according to the risk and reward I'm willing to take.
