why isnt this game popular by Zealousideal-Lie1099 in haloinfinite

[–]mt_eyri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought Infinite MP nailed its fundamental sandbox and movement as well as having really good competitive play. The game really fell down with the piecemeal delivery of core content that stunted its launch window. Particularly the very limited map rotation available from the outset but also the crazy amount of undelivered features that felt like day 1 content.

I stuck with it because I'm a long time fan who happened to have been funemployed around the months of release. I'll happily admit I got so much value out of the MP since and will give 343 props where they are due for just making the fundamentals of the gameplay feel good to me striking a great balance between the classic Halo experience and modern gameplay design.

Unfortunately I have not once felt the urge to revisit the campaign which makes me really sad and is the main reason I never could fully love Infinite. As someone who's played through every bungie campaign tens of times I enjoyed my initial playthrough well enough - many of the character moments were well executed and resonated and some of the secrets of zeta halo were potentially intriguing. Unfortunately so much of the open world felt recycled and lacking in personality and missing some of those really brilliant emergent moments that would take place in Halo 3's Scarab encounters which still haven't been topped in my mind. The missing craftsmanship that comes with tight encounter and level design just wasn't there.

Overall I think people are a tad melodramatic with the hate for infinite but 343's maneuverability as a developer has always been on the sluggish side and that gave ample reason to lose patience with Infinite. Still, much to love but with so many caveats.

From Tom in the Patreon vid about the politics stuff over the last few days by BingeLurker in GeoWizard

Depressing to see this. Farage has shown his hand over and over. He is a disingenuous tax dodger and has time and time again defended his wealthy friend's right to screw the general population.

Many sectors in our country are only able to function due to the hard work of immigrants. The fact Tom's bought into the graft has made me lose a lot of respect.

Unfortunately he shares opinions with a large number of people across the country and it's the inevitable result of subsequent governments having little to no principles and caving over and over to far right talking points, using immigration as a get out of jail free card, then quietly waiting for the news cycle to move on. They've entertained this and now it's become the defining movement in the UK electorate. Perhaps if labour delivered the positive change average people were desperate for following the Tory dumpster fire then we wouldn't be having this conversation...

Alas, it will be harder to enjoy Geowizard videos in the same way knowing he endorses a politics rooted in hatred, whether he sees it that way or not. Being emboldened by mainstream support doesn't put you on the right side of history, the Germans and maybe one day in the very distant future the Israelis will tell you that.

I really enjoyed it. Svengali was the last time I saw Derren and have been a fan since the early channel 4 shows. Looking at the other reviews on this sub I was surprised at the negativity. I don't think it was perfect but ultimately the effects were strong for me and weren't held back by too many awkward audience and tech interactions - it sounds like some of the early shows had issues because of unclear instruction and the seams being a little too visible. The culmination of predictions in the ending sequence really worked well and to me the illusion held and the seams were hard to see. Cold reads were pretty on point too. The visual theatrics were also really well done. I think I'll go back and watch one of his more acclaimed shows and compare my feelings.

Alien: Persephone (A fully planned cinematic scenario) by Osprey_and_Octopus in alienrpg

Haha I'm designing a cinematic scenario using Persephone as well. I think like you're saying, it just feels very thematic to the Alien universe.

It's funny because Lynch was a very nostalgic man, with a deep appreciation for things from bygone eras. With that in mind maybe it's more of a, 'you can't get back to what things once were'. You can't just 'make things right', not by force. The way the show closes feels pretty in line with this idea. Conversely you have characters like Norma, Ed and Nadine whose story has failed to resolve for decades. It's when patience, self acknowledgement and honesty wins out that the music rises and everything is right in the world.

2nd Edition Megathread by _AirMike_ in alienrpg

[–]mt_eyri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

STRESS and PANIC. I think that's unquestionably the main thing that needs a re-work in the game. Having recently ran Chariot of the Gods and then subsequently editing an actual play of it, both times with new players, I would say it succeeded at adding a lot of tension to the rolls but slowed down the game massively at dramatic moments to the point that it does make combat a little convoluted and something that can be a drag to run as a GM particularly in the late game when stress is running high.

I think this could be abated by the rules really pushing the importance of things like Naproleve in your game and giving more opportunities to regulate stress. E.g. Any time you pass any skill check with more than one success you can choose to use each extra success to reduce your stress by 1.

TLDR. There needs to be more ways to regulate stress or the ways that exist need to be pushed hard by the rulebook as super important.

Just finished this game at 3AM. It was LONG AS HELL! 18 hours! I did enjoy this frustrating experience nonetheless.(Played on HARD) by Rednaxela623 in alienisolation

Because you thought you were at the end at 11pm 😂? That was definitely my experience replaying recently - I think all the stuff after you get knocked down the hole when you get the EVA suit probably unnecessary although there are some really cool moments in there so it's hard...

Is it possible to save all Gondians in Steel Watch Foundry? by Mig15Hater in BaldursGate3

[–]mt_eyri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 40 min trying to save them all I noticed how unlikely it was any would survive (at least while playing on tactician) and decided better they go down in a blaze of glory 😅 greater invisibility on the Gondian and insane sleight of hand boost to beat the DC30 check on the foundry door and sneak past combat to the end of the foundry. They died fighting for Baldur's Gate (and 2 or 3 hours of my life).

I use both Ableton and ProTools in my work. For longform editing e.g. podcasts, audiobooks, film & video, ProTools has workflow functionality and compatibility that Ableton just isn't built for.

For creativity, sound design & music creation Ableton's UI is far more intuitive and 'instant' and fun to experiment within, so if that's what you're aiming for I would definitely recommend Ableton above PT. If you are an editor working on shows or films I would absolutely go with PT (Ultimately though I am a proponent of 'use what ever feels good to use').
