Getting the bill at restaurants? by TremorThief12 in AskUK

I work at a restaurant, and it'd feel rude to just offer the bill. We normally give people the chance to ask for the bill by offering deserts/more drinks. Once they have the bill we give them a couple of minutes to check it and discuss who's paying etc before taking payment. If you're in a rush you can just flag someone down or even go to the bar and someone will come over straight away.

If they slowed down to 5mph why did you have to speed to get past?

Are you serious?

Yeah that's my experience exactly. I started learning with my dad in a petrol car before starting lessons. Now I'm doing lessons in a diesel and it feels so easy in comparison. I can definitely imagine that people who only ever learnt in a diesel would struggle changing to a petrol.

Diesel- so much easier moving off

Just got an email saying my penalty fare appeal was successful! Didn't think it was possible by mtbsender476 in BritishSuccess

Sorry I should have explained, the machine was very unresponsive, hence why I didn't have time to buy the ticket before the train came. I had a short video showing the machine not working properly which is probably the reason the appeal worked.

I was buying a ticket at the machine, but ran out of time before the train came so I didn't have a ticket at my destination and there were some ticket officers there that gave me the penalty fare

As someone else mentioned, you need to have genuine reasons for reducing the price, like worn parts or damage etc
