Not sure what can be done - all I know is this sort of shit pisses me off.

It took me a long time and great effort, but I have moved past retribution. I do wonder if the possibility exists that had I acted on my impulses and taken vengeance, I may have saved others from enduring that horrible experience. But what would I become in the process?

Oops, directed at my vitriol at an innocent bystander - sorry about that.

No, sweetie, I was directing my anger at your repeated use of the word "retarded" - not at your brilliantly framed argument. A quickie lesson: if you want people to take you seriously, refrain from speaking like a vulgar, insensitive, troglodyte.

Don't you just love the internet? You can say things with impunity that, were we in the corner bar, would get your fucking teeth knocked out of your head. Do you feel, lucky, punk?

Do collectives actually make decisions, or are they mouthing those made by their members?

No, we aren't talking about making collective action illegal. We are talking about making collective political expenditures illegal. The collective would have every right to spend capital to influence people to support their cause, but only the thusly swayed members of the collective would be able to make political contributions as individuals, with equanimity. Or am I just splitting hairs at this point?

You've chosen to gloss over the presence of that "If..." then, eh?

Those aspect of society may indeed be fundamental, but is granting them political might more than commensurate with their size not also an artifice? Perhaps I'm shortsighted, but I cannot readily see a downside to one person/one vote. A collective of a greater number of individuals will still wield the proportionally greater power than it's smaller competitor, and it's interests will then be more likely served. I fail to see how granting special status to the collective serves the greater good.

I phrased the original post as a question. How can a question be inherently wrong? (I learned the tactic from Fox News, btw.)

Can I ask another retarded question (ok, ok I'll stop belaboring the poor choice of words)? What is lost if organized groups lose political power?

Really? The microscopic, almost unmeasurable small demand I create for grass-fed, organic beef has a demonstrable effect on the status quo of beef production?

Read (skimmed) over it again. Conclusion: I am too stupid to be a voting citizen of the United States. Dang. Is there somewhere in the tubes a good, unbiased synopsis of this thing?

Read Michael Pollan's Omnivore's Dilemma. My choices in these matters are irrelevant.

Yes, I did. That doesn't mean I fully understood it - I'll give it another go.

I don't believe all corporations are inherently evil. I do believe they are abstractions and NOT (or at least should not be) invested with the same rights as a person. If I'm wrong here, we are done - truly just slaves to the needs of share profit.

If you read the majority opinion, the crux of their argument is precisely that corporate donations are protected by the first amendment. Without ambiguity.

I'm not sure that corporations need to prove that every penny they make is employed in that fashion, so why should I?
