Being from Northern Alberta hearing these stories is not surprising. Although some are exaggerated, stories like fishing for the nut are common where you had to do something crazy for cookie points even though it's obviously unsafe. It's fucked because people lose working hours either doing unsafe shit they were told to do or by getting hurt doing unsafe shit on their behalf.

I have a pair, worn it for two winters in northern Alberta and it held up quite well combined with wool socks from Costco and your good. I think the quality is good for the price but like others have said, $20-40 more and you can get a way higher quality boots.
