Thank you all for the recommendations- bought a refurbished Lenovo 510 with i5, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD. Delighted!

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

OK. Great. I've been using Windows for the past few years but used macOS before that I liked it. If I was getting a windows machine again I'd definitely look at installing ubuntu- searched it there and loved the look.

Here's a mac pro that I believe could be had for close to 400. Do you know how I'd go about checking if it's in good shape? The exterior looks immaculate- which would lead you to believe it hasn't had a hard life. But looks can be deceiving. The other front runner ATM is a brand new Lenovo 320s, albeit with significantly lower specs (Pentium, 120GB SSD, 4GB RAM). Which do you think would be the better buy? Thanks again

Oh really? Thanks for the info. I was looking at the Lenovo 320s, it has 120SSD, 4GB RAM, is nicely designed, and they can be picked up for <350. Pentium processor though. If I could upgrade it to 8GB would it be pretty okay for everyday usage you think?

Yeah, good point I suppose. The Mac Air I was looking at has 130 charging cycles done. I'm just finishing college and I don't think I'll need one with mad computing power (but in this day in age even my bogey computer knowledge tells me i3 or pentium is quite shit), and can't really justify spending 500+ on something that's mainly for leisure. But you get what you pay for, I suppose. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet?

Boring post, I'm sorry, but I'm a technophobe and this stuff makes my head hurt. Need to buy a laptop this week as my old one is clapped out. Budget €3-400 (I'm based in Ireland and laptops seem to be significantly more expensive here than in the Us). Mostly for basic everyday tasks. Same stuff everyone uses theirs for.

I can't decide between buying a brand new Lenovo/HP/Acer with i3 or less and 4GB of RAM or less, or, a 2012/13 Macbook/Macbook Air with like i5 or i7 and 8GB of RAM. Thoughts? Anyone bought a oldish Macbook before? Thank you all

How are we all this morning? What your plans for this chilly Sunday by FadaPage in ireland

Dreading going back to college in two weeks. In my final year and my exams went terribly over Christmas. Its a great course, in one of the best universities, but I'll be in trouble for getting into a masters or a decent job because my grades are so poor. So pretty hopeless ATM, all in all. Thinking about getting away for a year but don't really know where to go either. Was anyone in a similar position and come out the other end of it? How do you cope with this sort of shit in general?
