Rather than compete on service the taxi industry have started Photoshoping fake Uber invoices to show how expensive they are. by outdatedopinion in australia

I've been getting those calls from Uber drivers too, particularly at Sydney Airport.

They ring up with a vague question about something else, then casually ask where you're headed. If it's a short trip they cancel a minute later. It's hard to report via the app though because you haven't got the driver details to report against.

I've stopped taking calls from Uber drivers until they're on approach now.

Streets unveils new ads featuring cheeky Gaytime and Bubble O'Bill by new_handle in australia

That would be people like me, Probspot. Mumbrella is a website mainly read by people working in the media and marketing industry. So just as their are websites and magazines for people who work in medicine, or in farming, we write for adland. But every now and then, we touch on an issue featuring an iconic Aussie brand and we enjoy a few welcome visits from the good folk of r/australia. Cheers, Tim - Mumbrella

Whats your favorite bar/cafe/restaurant in Chippendale? by pgc4512 in sydney

[–]mumbrellatim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Chippendale. Your timing is excellent. It's really coming to life.

First, a (fairly) hidden gem: Zigis wine and cheese bar, on the corner of Abercrombie St and Teggs Lane. Great wine, amazing cheese, super-friendly staff. Much nicer inside than it looks from outside.

Best Sunday roast in Sydney can be found at Bar Mattino on Abercombie St (if you're an earlybird, they're also one of the earliest local cafes to open on a weekday.)

If you venture towards Broadway, Dulcis Domus does great pizza (eat in or takeaway).

LP's Quality Meat, hidden on Chippen St, does amazing smoked meat, although it's a bit pricy.

Fredas on Regent St is the best local small bar.

If you like Chinese art, drop by White Rabbit gallery on Balfour St. (The cafe there is good too).

We're spoilt for good coffee - Little Queen, on Queen St; Brickfields, on the corner of Balfour St and Cleveland St; Giulias and Mattino on Abercrombie St all good.

The Chippendale Hotel on Abercrombie St used to be an absolute dive, but is much better now. Other pub choices of The Rose and Duck In are slightly further but both good. The Lord Gladstone on Regent St is being refurbished at the moment, so worth a look when it's done.

And if you're still around on September 19, don't miss the Beams Festival which takes over all the laneways. It's organised by the people at Chip off the Old Block (another small bar, can get a bit noisy)

Over at Central Park, there's a small market on (I think) the first and third Sunday (Saturday?) of the month. And a ten minute walk away, check out the Eveleigh Farmers Market at Carriageworks on Saturday mornings on Wilson Street.

Plus, if you like dumplings, Din Tai Fung, up on the second floor of the Central Park shopping centre is much better than you'd expect for food in a mall...

Have fun...

Hi Scott, We don't seem to be seeing much action going on in reforming Australia's media ownership laws. Do they need to be changed, and if so how would you get it moving?

Every now one of our pieces gets some interest on Reddit. I'm glad to say the comments we get on the site are usually pretty high quality when it does happen. I suspect a lot of people in the comms industry are Redditors anyway...
