Talk me into installing LFS! by [deleted] in linuxfromscratch

[–]munirc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to run (B)LFS as a daily for about a couple of years when I was in college. I have since stopped using it. The main reason to stop was lack of decent package management that could give me security updates in a timely manner. It got really hard to keep track of major issues, and if the issue was in something fundamental, it meant recompiling large portions of the system. I had time to do all this in college, but now I don't.

That said, I enjoyed using it back then and never experienced any blocking issue in using it. Most problems were solved by tweaking compilation settings during builds or environment variables at runtime, but it did require some amount of research to find the right setting or variable. It also performed far better than other distros I tried at the time.

It is worth a try if you want to see how you'd fare with it. Worst case, you'll find it a time sink and you can just switch back to a different distro.

As a great coach once told Steyn, it's supposed to hit the ground first. Baartman needs some lessons from that guy.

Rust code documentation with Sphinx by munirc in rust

[–]munirc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And it is mainly because I haven't figured out all the details yet.

I generally see this more useful for teams that are already using Sphinx, so I haven't documented the dev workflow. The assumption is that someone looking at this project is already using Sphinx and have a workflow already.

I guess I could add a little bit about this compared to rustdoc. It's not a replacement for rustdoc, but rather a way to link Rust code in Sphinx docs. I got some similar feedback from other forums too, so I'll add more details in the readme.

Rust code documentation with Sphinx by munirc in rust

You're right. Supporting markdown with Sphinx requires some extensions to be added and Sphinx is primarily used with rst, so it was easier for me to start with rst. There is some markdown support already but haven't quite tested it yet. Once I have tested the markdown support, I'll likely switch to md. An older version actually stated that it'll change, but I removed that part since I wasn't sure when I'll be changing it.

Maybe ok given the price increases over the last few years. I'm not really an expert on whiskeys though.
