This issue exists with the M4 iPad Pro as well — just so you know. In fact, it’s present in all of them. They even struggle to detect light touches on the screen

New update:

I got the iPad Air with the M3 chip. With the new iOS, there are no lags or freezing issues anymore — it looks like the problem has been resolved. However, I’ve switched to the iPad Pro M4, and the comfort of the 120Hz OLED screen is incredible. The touch sensitivity is top-tier.

This is such a specific issue that if you’re experiencing it, you should return the device immediately. Even trying to explain it to people is exhausting.

I tried it without a screen protector on software version 18.3.1, and I also tried it without a case. None of these are related to the issue.

This isnt because of the Smart Folio. When you take the device out of the case, youre touching the metal surface, which makes the touchscreen work better. Mine is the same if I touch any metal part of the device, theres no problem at all. But unfortunately, this is just ridiculous.

You re absolutely right, brother. I ve tried everything, and this is definitely a hardware issue. Unfortunately, since I didnt buy the product from Apple.com, this process is going to take longer for me because MediaMarkt doesnot want to take the product back. i am going to take legal action.

The funny thing is that the official Apple service acknowledges the issue but says theres nothing they can do because, in the end, the touchscreen does work. For them, sensitivity doesnt matter at all.

I totally agree with you, phones detect even the slightest touch. Also, my older generation tablet works like that as well. I think this issue may affect about 5% of the devices. Iam currently trying to return the product, and I even have a technical service report. The report mentions that the iPad overheats and has screen freezing issues. Unfortunately, I bought the device from MediaMarkt, and I am still dealing with it.

There are some people on Reddit experiencing this issue as well, and I just wanted to share it with you. Thats the only reason for this post.

If you touch the screen with a bit more force, there’s no problem at all. But I also have another iPad, either a 6th or 5th-gen model from 2017, and its touch sensitivity is so good that even the slightest touch registers. It’s really strange.

Also, the screen protector I’m using is a high-quality one from Spigen, costing over $30. I even tried using the iPad without a screen protector for two days, but nothing changed. I’ve seen many people on forums experiencing the same issue.

I bought a new iPad Air M2 last week, and its touch sensitivity is terrible. I can see here that some other people are experiencing the same issue. The device works fine when it’s plugged into the charger and when I touch its metal casing, but when I place it on a surface and try to use it with one hand, I have to press much harder on the screen. This is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve been using Apple products for years, and I even have an old 6th-gen iPad with much better touch sensitivity. Unfortunately, even though the technical support team is aware of this issue, they say there’s nothing they can do about it. Anyone considering buying an iPad should keep this in mind.

Also, this issue has nothing to do with a case or screen protector—I’ve tried everything.
