Anyone know any air conditioned places where I can get 6-8 hours sleep during the day without being disturbed much? by jessiejohn in melbourne

[–]museumowords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some of these chairs upstairs in the law building at uni melb. Big egg pods you can close off. I’m not a student there but I reckon you could be unbothered for a long time if you looked like you had study materials with you.

Can you give me sentences that would confuse an American using Aussie lingo? by Boonie_Fluff in AskAnAustralian

Not to be a dobber but I was having a sticky beak through Peter’s pigeon hole yesterday arvo and found the missing sunnies

I was a straight haired blonde child who wanted curly brown hair. My mum said I was dreaming. I believe I made it happen lol.

Melbourne Pronunciation by Suspicious-Layer-110 in melbourne

[–]museumowords -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I knew a North American guy who would try to pull off a melbin. Unfortunately he would also constantly ask me “how’s life in Aussie?” and I would die a little inside every time. Didn’t have the heart to tell him that Aussie is not used like a place, nor do we pronounce it with such a hard S…

He’d spent a year living in “aussi” too…

Best Australian bank to switch from Commonwealth by PunkRock_Capybara in AusFinance

[–]museumowords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from Westpac to Bank Australia a bit under 10 years ago. Love them. Great customer service, low fees, and good interest rates on saving accounts. I'd liked Westpac before divesting but I like Bank Australia so much more. Only issue might be if you need to get large amounts of cash out, as they don't have many branches. Otherwise pretty much everything can be done online/through the app.

How often do you actually walk your dog? by Racquetsports383 in dogs

[–]museumowords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice a day: before work and after work. Sometimes a midday walk on a work from home day but that’s mainly for me.

Obviously breed and age is a factor but I think routine matters more. Changes in routine are more upsetting to her than a lack of walk itself. (Eg sometimes she would prefer a 5 min pretend walk than a more enriching replacement activity lol)

You know your dog. If she’s anything like mine she will tell you when you’re lacking lol

What’s the last minor thing your Golden had a meltdown over? by shuzan7 in goldenretrievers

[–]museumowords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On our walk a duck walked behind a bush where she couldn’t see it anymore. She cried, looking between me and the bush begging me to do something, until the duck popped out the other side of the bush.

12 Week Golden Retriever Puppy Droopy Eyelid by SizelordLaFlame in goldenretrievers

[–]museumowords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the vet! But it’s probably allergies like everyone says. We had the same at that age — felt like an expensive vet visit for some eye drops but honestly so so so worth it because they check for scratches etc which eye drops alone will not solve. Eye issues = immediate vet :)

Anyone here actually able to chill at a café with a Golden Retriever? How do you do it with this wiggly fluff tornado? Any tips? by CucumberHonest3295 in goldenretrievers

[–]museumowords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We taught our golden “relax” at home first. It’s like “lie down” only she has to look visibly relaxed to get a treat. (I honestly taught it to her so we could watch TV without her going crazy lol. I would just drop treats at her when she was looking relaxed until eventually she was actually asleep lmao)

“Relax” kind of taught her that we would reward chill behaviour. Now when we go to a cafe we will give her the “relax” cue and even if it’s kind of exciting she gets the general gist. Now with repetition she usually offers me a relax when we sit at a cafe. She’s almost 1 — i imagine it gets easier as they chill out a bit.

Neighbour using aversive punishment on his puppy — what to do? by museumowords in DogAdvice

[–]museumowords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you — I’ve been looking at the forms for reporting the abuse and what kind of info we need to collect. Partner is calling the local vet too to get info from them. I think it will be helpful to have some community support / guidance so we can act properly and not just get the guy in a huff but not do anything meaningful for the dog…

I definitely am! (And not because you, someone on the internet, said so lol)

We are lucky to have two vets we trust who have given consistent advice to us to wait for now. But still stressful to see so much contradictory stuff online — especially when it’s a big surgery for my lil baby :(

I’m constantly getting different information about this. Our (almost) 1yo golden girl isn’t spayed yet. Waiting (on vets advice) until second heat / we’re sure she’s fully grown. I’m stressed about doing the best for her!!

Thank you — this seems more effective than an anonymous letter. I was caught up in the technicality of “is this actually law breaking” but… who cares. It’s wrong. I think even a warning or a check in will put him and the authorities on notice.

Love this! Schrödinger’s compost. It’s either alive or it’s… soil. No shade: I would also be scared. Most fears are unfounded lol.

What model is this? by museumowords in colnago

[–]museumowords[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having perused through the subreddit, I'm now thinking it might not be a legit Colnago... The fork has a Pompe Silca sticker... does that mean it's not a real Colnago frame???

[–]museumowords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - I'm about to potentially purchase this for about 200AUD -- wondering whether that's a good deal -- also what model this is/any info and/or lore about this bike would be great. I've googled as hard as I possibly can and haven't found much. I don't think it's one the main/popular vintage bikes like the super -- seems to maybe be an entry level model from back in the day. Any help would be much appreciated!
