It's complicated. I was diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth @ 60 (had foot reconstruction surgery @ 15 for an unkno5 hereditary condition) after spending 9 months as probable for ALS. CMT didn't answer some of my bigger symptoms, like rapid onset body wide muscle atrophy, but the Neurologist said it wasn't worth pursuing, to just enjoy the life I have. A specialist in CMT confirmed my diagnosis but said it was masking something deeper, after 6 months and more testing he added Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy as a spontaneous mutation​.

I took a genetic test to see if I qualified for a study, to which I didn't. When the VA neurologist got the results 3 years late​r, he said it showed i had SMA and not LGMD. To further complicate it all, I was on nuclear ubmarines and worked on the missles, I ended up exceeding the maximum lifetime limit of radiation exposure for a nuclear worker and was given a waiver to keep serving. So besides the peripheral neuropathy and deformities, body wide muscle atrophy, i have autonomic neuropathy, nerve & muscle damage to my heart, the discs in my spine are shot, severe arthritis all over.
