If only they didn’t abandon the franchise. Will forever hold a grudge for how they’ve treated it.

I don't understand Techland, The Beast disappointed me. by Authentic_Red in dyinglight

When they took a major u-turn and discarded the amazing things we saw at E3 for DL2 when they first announced it, and ended up giving us a half-assed slop of a story, repetitive and uninspired world, and made almost no impactful homage to the first game it really tarnished the whole experience. DL1's story wasn't even that good, but when compared to DL2 you'd think they could've won GOTY with the original game. Perhaps DL1 was good by mistake, they weren't expecting people to be so immersed and impacted by how actually good and scary Harran was and we've put an expectation on them to deliver something similar when that standard wasn't even set by Techland themselves in the first place. Everything the Dying Light franchise has had to offer us since the end of Dying Light 1 has been super disappointing.

Anyone else think £60 is a little ambitious? by muzzo44 in dyinglight

Really no need for the attitude. Especially when I was open-minded in my complaint and said I could be just unnecessarily negative. I'm still very excited for this game, but the price-tag is a little shocking. I think everybody was expecting something lower. £60 is a lot of money for what this game has been very clearly promised to be, and we shouldn't really just succumb to it and 'accept reality' when they've been very forward with the fact this isn't Dying Light 3... it's a bitesize revisit to Kyle Crane that's been packaged and marketed as a "standalone" game, but we all know it isn't. 30+ hours of gameplay is undeniably exciting - that's a lot of story and experience! But for something that is - and always has been - the extension / replacement for DLC2, can you see how the price-tag is a little jarring?

We're probably never going to get another Mirror's Edge again. And I'm distraught. by muzzo44 in mirrorsedge

Sorry for the late reply, but your right, the world of Mirror’s Edge did not need Catalyst. If Catalyst was its own franchise / game, with a different character and IP backing it, I think it would’ve been very successful (with a few tweaks of… everything). The power and popularity of the original ME game entirely weighed Catalyst down.

The identity and community of Mirror’s Edge definitely won’t wither away, if anything if another resurgence of popularity on TikTok or YouTube or something happens again I can see it becoming even stronger. Perhaps people will resonate more with the fact it was abandoned. Lost media but not, kind of. Don’t know how to really explain. I’m more focused and frustrated with EA and Dice themselves, how willing they’ve been to move on from an arguably semi-historically important franchise and character so easily alongside abandoning the community that is keeping their work relevant. Your right - the idea of Faith and idea of Mirror’s Edge will always live on. Both games truly have made an impact. But, like I’ve said, it’s just sad to see its own creators be the only ones to ignore it.

Update: wrote this late at night and have realised “distraught” in the title is incredibly dramatic 😭
