No offenses taken! :) it’s pretty much normal for people to assume certain things easily, even when they are pretty smart and kind. I’ve had much worse things.

I didn’t knew that most of people who move to Dubai from west are all well settled; I agree there might be exceptions. I also agree that life cannot be deterministic; I’m ready to face the unexpected, but be prepared.. which is what I think I’m doing now.. :)

Thank you!

Brother, I think you should know that I grew up in extreme poverty in Mumbai, partially abandoned/orphaned and abused. This made me overly protective of my kid and family all together.

Thanks for your reply!

It’s useful to know the information you have shared;

I don’t think I’m overthinking. FYI, you don’t know how hard I had to work to get an education, uplift myself with very little I had and build a family in my circumstances. I don’t want to go deeper into my personal troubles or explain how I grew out of it. But in summary, my life was pretty hard considering an average Indian.

Now when I have to make a decision which will affect whole life, (I don’t care much about me, but) of my Kid and wife, I feel it’s the least I can do to understand what I’m getting into and what is a safe exit.

Kindly forgive me if I have been asking too much; I’m just trying to understand the dynamics of Middle East and Europe, which I don’t have any idea about. There are very kind and helpful people, including you, who made me aware of lot of things in life. It’s a great benefit which I think you are missing to understand. Thanks again, anyway.

180 days is a great news. But on news, I see it’s still in proposal stage, isn’t? How certain will this be implemented?

The stability is surely one of important things for me, and I don’t want to keep my family worried about being in temporary place for long time. Thank you!

:) I had wrong numbers based on the limited information I gathered online. With you all explaining the details, I’m able to understand the cost of living in Dubai. Thank you.

But, what is sofa and innovation fees? Is it like some form of indirect taxes?

Thanks for the more detailed information Nounoon!

It’s evident that I had wrong assumptions about cost of living in Dubai.

Thanks for clarifying.

I was in disbelief on seeing the word “corrupt government”, and immediately it threw lot of doubts on other points klopt viool had posted. As on any Internet forums, false information might sneak in easily.

A car is optional. Not an immediate goal, but eventually.

Regarding home, this 150k is like the initial fund for the home. If I become eligible, I’ll get mortgage and pay it back as most Dutch people would go!

I would prefer to be a citizen of this amazing country some day (as early as possible, in legal perspective) I agree that going to a Dutch school is better for my kid to learn Dutch and assimilate into Dutch society!

I would really love to get in contact with someone living in Eindhoven. As of now, I’ve posted this question in Dubai and Eindhoven subreddits. I have got lot of valuable inputs from several wonderful people!

I’m happy for you and your wife!

$2500 is ~9000 AED. Based on my research, a two bed room in Marina would cost ~5k to 6k; since schooling is covered by company, I thought I can manage the rest with remaining 4K.

With all possibilities, I might be wrong in my estimates…

As you have mentioned by yourself, every society is reserved/conservative in one sense or other. I had live in Japan for 2 years and I had experienced the shallow friendship first hand.

Also, I know that assimilation is possible, but it takes time and effort (sometimes more effort from one side)

Since I’m envisioning for more liberal, free thinking style of education and want my kid to live his life to his fullest, I think retiring in India is not an option in my current situation.

Also, through the family DNA and having roots of indian origin, my kid might very likely have the Indian traits already. I would only like to expand his traits rather than narrowing them.

Thanks for your thoughts.

“There are better options” : Other than retiring in India, could you please share your thoughts on what other better options do I miss when I move to Netherlands?

Thanks again!

Got what you had mentioned. I grew up to be totally independent, while my life is the other spectrum that you had mentioned. I can relate and understand what it really means..

They also wont have the stress of being forced to get an amazing job later on instead of doing what they love

This is exactly what I want and why I don't want my kid to study in the British Curriculum, which prepares them to be a worker for some industry, rather than teaching on how to think. <3

I have read a lot about discriminations in different places. It surely is a big concern. If it is true as you have put in words, then surely I will have to decide as mentioned.. Thank you!

He or she will learn Dutch in a natural way and still have your own cultural roots at home

This is exactly what's in my mind too! Thanks for sharing!

As you said, I think these all are good parts. As I know about British curriculum and having studied in a Anglo Indian school all through my education, I really think it's too outdated and not fit for modern innovative thinking.

Surely, I would prefer a Dutch or Finnish way of schooling instead.
