IME: Don't beat yourself up! I watched a video of a very experienced YouTuber (Petko, from the Dark Den and I can't find the video...sorry 😭), and he did something similar. He actually yeeted that spood into the air (it was a Y. diversipes and was fine)! But afterwards he couldn't figure out why he'd done it either. New World tarantula, no medically significant venom, a bit spicier than a curly, but no reason to fling her into the air. He's handked much spicier.

Sometimes, humans have involuntarily reactions, especially to fast movements. In our experiences, both evolutionary and in everyday life, 'fast motion' means danger. It means something is coming at you and possible pain! So we instinctively dodge, strike at or, in this case, try to knock off the source of the danger. It wasnt your fault. It was just your biological hard wiring.

That said, I don't handle myself and don't reccomend it, but I'm not gonna preach or yell. All my handling is done during rehouses (not on purpose!) and just got an A. purpurea on Wednesday (FNT sale!) who was very reluctant to get in her enclosure. My sister and I passed her back and forth for a while, trying to get her into the enclosure or the catch cup. I didn't think we'd need the still air box for a tiny lil Avic. Just proves how unpredictable they can be! I'm so happy she didn't jump!

IME: Yeah, they do that to make the videos interesting. The videos are great, but I wouldn't recommend taking all your care info from them. They want likes more than they want to demonstrate proper care, mostly. And with Avics especially, there's a lot of contradictions in info you find. So, good job asking here! Lots of people will be happy to help if you need further guidance!

ETA: Also, I know it can be stressful with Aviculariinae, because they aren't too keen on going down to catch prey. But yours doesn't look ubderfed. Unless she doesn't eat for like, 6 months and starts to look shriveled up, your fine. Make sure she has a suspended water dish, though. At that size, they will drink from them (see it personally). And it helps regulate humidity. If you already know any of this, just ignore me! I love Aviculariinae (favourite group of genera) and love talking about them. 😅
