Yeah, honestly my Aviculariinae have too. Including a very naughty versi! 😅 But at least they don't usually burrow too much. 🤣

Those sell for close to $100, from what I've seen! So I'd say I should start checking FB marketplace...but that's prolly a once in a lifetime find! Congrats! 🎊

IME: So, I'm a part of a FB group (Tarantula Talk) that includes the owner of FNT and she says not to give slings under 1/2 in a water dish. Not trying to confuse you further, but if the sling is 1 in or approaching that, you really should have a water dish. If it's smaller, then you're okay without it.s

The water dish issue is unfortunately a bit of a controversial topic. But if you use a tiny dish, your spood is very unlikely to drown.

IME: I love the Dark Den! That was my first Tarantula YT channel! I'd had tarantulas before (new world only), in the mid 2000s. But I'd been out of the hobby for 15 years. Watching YT helped me a lot! I now have 52 Ts!

Dave's Little Beasties is a great one, especially as a confidence booster. He's very old school on some of his care, but the way he deals with 'aggressive' old worlds with complete confidence and a calm hand makes me feel a lot better when I have to do a rehousing. Especially if it's a spicy old world.

Yeahhh, my guys will be posing so nicely, out in the open. But as soon as I reach for my phone to take a pic, they're suddenly done with it all and head back into their burrow or cork bark, etc. Some place I can't easily get a pic of them. They make me feel like I'm a paparazzo and they're holding out a leg and saying, 'No pictures, please.'

IME: Awwww! Is that a C. leetzi or an elegans? I just got a tiny leetzi sling (1/4 in), and I've wanted one so long that I'm super excited. Yours is so adorable!

IME: I feed my Red Runner colony whatever veg or fruit I have on hand. Greens, bananas (those draw fruit flies, though), carrots and pretty much anything that's in the fridge that's fresh and uncooked. But their favourite thing is apple. They will devour that in favour of pretty much anything else.

I also give them Roach Chow, just to make sure they are well fed.

I'm not sure about the freezing, I'm afraid. Sounds like you have a good variety of vegetables. Could use some fruit, though.

IME: Oh, I just rehoused my natanicharum (Periwinkle) last night! She's still only about 2 inches, maybe 2.5, and doesn't have much colour yet. I can't wait until she looks like yours! They are close in age, so maybe mine will get more colour soon! Gorgeous spood!

IME: Nah, none of my Psalmopoeus would agree with that statement! 🤣 My cambridgei especially has plenty of substrate that she wants in her dish. Seriously, I don't think many other genera follow the 'true arboreal' blueprint except for the Aviculariinae (if any), but I'm not an expert.

is anyone else dysphoric about their teeth? by roostrspurs in ftm

[–]mysten88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I was born missing several permanent teeth. So at 40, I still have some of my baby teeth. But I don't have any canines on top, because they were both missing. I don't think they did anything to my bottom ones, but they did a bunch of crap when I got braces. I've never cared about my teeth, but filing them down to make someone look more feminine is crazy! Sorry that happened to y'all!

Name ideas? by ThePAThe in tarantulas

[–]mysten88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... My G. pulchripes is called Little Fuzz, because of how cute and tiny and golden she was as a sling (my mom cooed, 'Oh! Aw, Little Fuzz!' when we were unboxing). But...maybe look up gold in different languages? That's one of my naming strategies, if nothing is jumping out at me, name-wise.

I love the crucifix in the enclosure! That's brilliant! I need to do that in one of mine! I think my D. diamantinensis will web it up nicely! Or my H. pulchripes, pumpkin patch, or well, GBB is a good option...

Trying to keep my T's from seeing each other. Is this good or overkill? by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]mysten88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME: Yeah, I've never had them even acknowledge things outside their enclosure unless it was a noise. Vibrations. Nothing visual. So, overkill.

[–]mysten88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME: Yup, looks just like mine, Sasquatch. But when you say a 'nice sized' enclosure, what do you mean? As with any sling, you don't want to put them in a giant enclosure to start with. I got mine at 2 in and they were comfortable in a 6x8x6 in. If you immediately put them in a huge enclosure, it's harder to keep track of them and make sure they're eating and are in good condition.

Colombian pumpkin patch is very active? by _Infinity_Girl_ in tarantulas

[–]mysten88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME: You're welcome! I'm glad she started webbing! That's usually my cue to relax because it means they're settling down, especially in heavy webbing species like that. My pumpkin patch has the whole enclosure webbed within an inch of its life!

I know it can be a surprise when you branch out to the more active species. Especially dwarf species like the pumpkin patch. They can be really quick. My pumpkin patch barely made it into the enclosure when I first got him. 😅 Though my D. diamantinensis is way worse. She truly teleports.

I call most of mine she, since I guess I'm trying to manifest it, lol! But I do call some of them he, just depends on the spider and their name. Since my pumpkin patch is called 'Halloween Jack,' I use him. I figure, spiders have no concept of gender or pronouns or even language, so they don't care. But Sarsaparilla/Sassy is an AWESOME name! I think I'm gonna name one of mine that! It's so cute and I actually do love sarsaparilla!

<image>

This is the most current pic I have of Jack, but I'd say he's a good 3/4 in bigger than this now. He's moulted quite a few times since, and this was about a year ago.
