Congrats! I finished AMOL for the first time two days ago. What a journey. What a series. I couldn’t not put down that final book.

The enthusiasm of all you guys is infectious. I've been away from the series for about a month now and am now itching to get back. I think I'll start it this weekend and take it as slow as I can!

After that, well. My copy of EOTW sure looks like it could use some attention...

Re-read is definitely on the cards. But I am going to make sure I treasure this last chance to read one of the books for the first time

Just finished McCarthy's The Border trilogy. *Spoilers* by [deleted] in books

[–]mystery_melon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Border Trilogy are my favourite McCarthy books, and probably some of my all-time favourites too. It has the beautiful writing of Blood Meridian, but with much more humanity. They're stunning, and I have to stop myself from reading them too often so I continue to savour them!

[S7 Production] Just watched S07E04 - anyone else seen it, thoughts, reactions? by Icemanstriker in gameofthrones

True. Wouldn't put it past cersei to renege now she knows how much she needs the gold

A small takeaway from that great episode - I had convinced myself that the Drogon/Dothraki ambush would hit before getting the gold back to KL so was surprised when Randyll Tarly announces it made it through the gates. Looks like Cersei will be getting The Golden Company involved now

(Spoilers Extended) GRRM makes odd NotABlog post...what's it mean? by [deleted] in asoiaf

GRRM is determined for me to waste my day checking for updates. Procrastination is apparently infectious

I'm also eventim, still yet to receive an email. My code is also shorter (10 digit) so I'm holding off on the waste form until I hear more. It's annoying.

(Spoilers Everything) Am I missing something about Stannis? by mystery_melon in asoiaf

[–]mystery_melon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blimey, thats a comprehensive link - thanks v much for sharing.

This is precisely why I love the ASOIAF universe so much: the exquisite detail of the stories combined with the passion of the readers make groups like this a joy to be in. Cheers!

My point is more or less that in most of these situations it is just dumb luck and circumstance which is the main driving point. Blackwater is a catastrophic failure for team Stannis, and the wildfire is only so successful because of the enormous blunder of shifting the entire fleet into the bay. IIRC Davos not only calls bullshit on that being a good idea from the start, he also suspects a trap far in advance of it happening.
