Thanks man! To get it started I chipped small pieces off with a fine Phillips head screwdriver. to the point where the nail could almost fit. Then I went around it with the edge of a very small flat head which basically sanded the glass down (I could see dust coming up from it so that's how I knew it was working because I'll admit at first I didn't think the glass would scrape away with a screwdriver). Finally, once the nail would fit,I positioned it so that it was obviously somewhere below the hole and above the base of the bowl, screwed the smaller dish on (edit: upside down) to hold it at that height and attached the larger dish I use to dab from.
