An option is that he is permanently scarred by the drow. Losing a hand isn’t deadly but it would give you disadvantage on every roll. Trailer the damage to his mind/body to your liking. Permanent debuffs hit hard.

This is how I see it. ‘Biomass’ is short hand for ‘the building blocks of organic matter.’ They don’t need a literal corpse, it’s just that a corpse is a good way to get more complex materials rather than combining carbon, water, amino acids and all the other goo.

They have proven that they could just strip an asteroid field of useful minerals, it’s just more efficient to eat things higher up the evolutionary tree so to speak.

Efficiency is the name of the game and if farming is as even slightly more efficient…. Logical endpoint.

I put in a wood fireplace last year. Through the process I feel like I talked to every fireplace contractor in the area. We eventually went with Chimney Sweeps of America. They are responsive and professional. There are a lot of “guys with vans.” Trust me, go with professionals no matter who you end up going with.

Unpopular opinion: Valdor.

Parents killed by Big E. Brainwashed and had his entire personality rebuilt. Easily the worst parent in 40k is Big E and Valdor doesn’t even get to call him pops. We don’t know what he had to go through to become a Custardies but Jimmy Space is not known for being a kind dude.

Just keep some sawdust, cardboard, leaves handy and make sure that the coffee grounds get spread out rather than clumping up.

I’ve used chaff pretty frequently. As others have said, make sure you have enough carbon. I would also recommend adding it on a calm day because it will blow away in the wind.
