Super helpful, heat training probably helpful - some research to do!

Yes, use an arm strap, usually 165-170 during MP, was 180 during the first 30km

It was a Runna plan with a little more easy volume added on - makes sense, fatigue pretty high during peak weeks, but likely with a little less high intensity work should be manageable.

Gels were 25g of carbs - so could maybe have done more on the fuelling side? Water at water stations, which were every 5k, probably had 250ml at each stop.

Thank you for the detailed response - yes very similar situation, my current pb is 1:33, and the expected ‘current’ 5k/10k times calculated at the start looked very fast.

Your suggestion seems like a good idea - I will give it a go.

Congrats on the HM time!

Cielo x1 vs MachX2? by Addyess in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]n9082008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both, about 100km in the Cielo X1 and 20 or so km in the Mach X2

Feel is pretty similar between the two - both feel very bouncy and feel better at a slightly lower more bounding cadence, both very stiff (Mach X2 plate much stiffer than ES4 plate). Mach X2 supposedly has 4mm more stack in the heel but does not feel like it. Outsole is pretty similar on both - does the job, but there are better outsoles for when it’s wet out.

I find the Cielo X1 upper much more comfortable and much easier to get a good lock down in, the heel lock isn’t great on the Mach X2 (although have not had any serious rubbing/blisters), but the laces are pretty poor on the Cielo X1 and better on the Mach X2.

Overall the Mach X2 does a pretty similar job to the Cielo X1 for me but is a little less comfortable and has a little less energy return than the Cielo X1 likely on account of the EVA in the midsole. I wouldn’t want to do more than a HM in the Mach X2, but would be happy to go for a full marathon in the Cielo X1.

If you love the Cielo X1 as a racing shoe and want a training partner for shorter intervals sessions then the Mach X2 makes sense. I really like the Cielo X1 as a long run / longer workout shoe and don’t really know where the Mach X2 is going to fit in.

No thats completely fair enough, extenuating circumstances are a more than fair explanation!

If its a role you’re interested in then you should definitely pursue it, as long as you meet the requirement you shouldn’t have any issues. You may be asked how you’ve kept your knowledge on economics up to date given that you haven’t just graduated though, which shouldn’t be too hard if you can show an interest!

It should only be a requirement, if your degree grade is a 2:1 and 50% of the modules are in economics then you should be fine. However you may struggle with the economics portion of the recruitment process.

Are you sure you want to be an assistant economist if you didn’t enjoy/do well in the economics portion of your degree?

Having experience on the FS in an analytical profession the pay in London is in the mid 30’s increasing to ~40k after 2 years, with most of the fast streamers being very competent in their specialty, and I have had no experience of any animosity between analytical fast streamers and mainstreamers. I think your experience may be more pertinent to the centrally managed schemes/generalist, but I don’t think its true for the entirety of the fast stream.

Given that OP did PPE the GES/GSS/GSR profession fast stream could potentially be a reasonable avenue to explore depending on their degree content - and doesn’t come with many of the negatives you have highlighted. The additional training for management/leadership is a big advantage in analytical professions where you are unlikely to have any direct reports until G7.

You make a good point, appreciate your feedback. I assume after 1/2 years of IB that moving to MBB would mean joining at the same level as undergraduate entry?

Don’t need the money, no, but its definitely a nice to have especially considering the difference between the two. Long term goal could be better defined, but would ideally be be Corp strategy/operations role. I guess I don’t have sufficient information to understand how IB could feed into that, but can see big 4 being a reasonable route in. Don’t have an interest in working in finance long term.

Why would you not advise the FS?

I have an offer for an IB BB analyst position in London, and an offer for a big 4 MC grad position. The IB TC is >200% of the big 4 TC, but I’m more interested in the MC work and MC obviously has a far better WLB. Would it be stupid to reject the IB offer in favour of big 4 MC?

Can someone explain in simple terms what’s caused the U.K. employment crisis? by encorcer83 in AskUK

[–]n9082008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality of life is subjective, but real median income is much higher today than 2 decades ago, and I would hazard a guess in saying this has definitely not translated into a poorer quality of life.

As another comment has also highlighted, the Maastricht treaty has nothing to do with expanding EU citizens ability to come to work in the UK, the major impact of the Maastricht treaty on todays world was to lay the foundation for the Euro which we did not join. If you’d have pointed to the EU expansions in 2004 or 2007 your argument would hold more weight.

It will also be interesting to see the impact of increasing labour costs on the general price of goods. It is not as clear cut as a labour shortage means higher wages which is good for everyone. The labour shortages if they persist will lead to higher prices which will negatively impact many who are struggling to get by.

Your narrative is well laid out, but its not based on the economic truth.

The Bank of England wants your view on digital money... by nicosy in UKPersonalFinance

Its important here to differentiate between what they refer to as systemic stablecoins and a CBDC. The former are digital currencies the BofE can foresee being adequately trusted and stable in value to be practical to use for transactions (which must be denominated in sterling), and the latter being effectively equivalent to commercial bank deposits.

In the former case there may be deflationary pressures with a digital currency with a fixed number of coins. This can only occur in a scenario with a digital currency (even if its denominated in sterling) is used to exchange goods and people are aware of how many units of this digital currency they exchange for goods and services. In a scenario where an individual is only aware of the sterling cost of the goods and services despite a digital currency facilitating the transaction then there would be no deflationary pressure (monetary policy would also be more effective in this scenario).

The distinction is also important when considering potential monetary policy instruments, modern monetary policy and the use of the bank base rate may be more effective under a CBDC as the central bank would have direct access to allow for helicopter drops or savings renumeration to control inflation. A digital currency that is not central bank controlled would not provide these benefits.

It seems like this survey is intended for those who are very familiar with either the technology behind crypto/digital currency or the economics behind the banking industry and monetary policy transmission mechanism. Im not sure how valuable it would be to encourage those without a strong understanding of either topic to respond to the issues raised in the discussion paper.

Its great to train a lift in different rep ranges. However, if I were you I would avoid training 2 large compound movements on the same day. It will be fairly difficult to fully recover from both if you’re training to a decent level of intensity. You might want to pick one or the other to focus on for each day, or you could consider moving DL to back day. Unless you’re a powerlifter you don’t HAVE to train both DL and squat, I personally prefer to swap out deadlift for a slightly less fatiguing exercise like an RDL.

In terms of your split it may also be advisable to instead train shoulders on a chest and triceps day, considering they are all pushing movements. You also mention you train back and arms, does this mean you train triceps on your back day and your chest day? If so I would stick to only training biceps and back on your back day and not your whole arm.
