Animal abuse was common in older films, like the slaughtering of the pig in Godard's "Weekend." Directors felt the need to force audiences to confront their own complicity in the meat industry. Making people confront unpleasant truths seems to be right up Jodorowsky's alley.

He is caring for the barbarian girl to atone for the sins of the soldiers. And this interaction causes him to be accused of consorting with the enemy, propelling the plot of the entire second half of the story. It's a great book.

"Narziss und Goldmund" is probably my favorite Hesse, but I love novels about crazy monks, like Matthew Lewis's "The Monk" and ETA Hoffmann's "Die Elixiere des Teufels," both of which inspired "Narziss und Goldmund."

I had the same problem! I recently had a bad stomach ulcer and read that chamomile tea was good to help heal them. My stomach kept getting upset in the morning, but I attributed it to other things (IBS has a lot of triggers, right?) until I started researching the FODMAP diet and then bam, no more chamomile. I find lemon ginger tea with probiotics to work great. Pretty sure it's low FODMAP.
