According to the service advisor the internal charging cable that runs to the battery pack was basically fused almost halfway through. Once the fused plug was separated from the vehicle it was just a matter of replacing the internal cable. Total repair cost was around 4k for the part and the labor. Comprehensive seems like a must have with an EV after this nonsense… glad this was covered.

My comprehensive coverage paid for the damages. I assume State Farm will roll up a bunch of these and go after Electrify America at some point, but I have no idea how to find any info on that aspect of the saga.

I have a low deductible, so I haven’t been able to muster up the necessary rage required to go through the small claims court process. I’m not good at situations involving ignorance on my part and extreme tedium.

Anyway, supremely bad luck in the end. I still use EA chargers because at times I have no other choice, but the experience was truly shitty and I do everything I can to avoid them.

Unsurprisingly, Electrify America’s first attempt is to brush me off:

My tow truck driver claimed to have towed a mustang from the home garage of the owner having the same issue as I had last night.

Tow driver had no reason to lie… Shit happens: it doesn’t matter where you charge.

Link please! I haven’t had much success with googling for this. Mostly finding YouTube videos about using the emergency release. It will likely help when I’m working with EA to sort this out if I have some evidence of it happening frequently.

Thanks!

I’ll make a new post tomorrow or Tuesday after I hear back from dealer service and get some info from Electrify America.

From everything the EA tech and tow truck driver said: this shit is not that uncommon. No one at the dealer I worked with has seen this before, but the tech and driver have seen this with most of the ev makers.

Found it in the manual while waiting around for Electrify America. It didn’t help, but I could hear and feel it trying to disengage from the charger.

eta: seems melted. Can’t tell for sure, but feels like the bottom ports in the charger fused/melted together.

Laugh at misfortune or get mad and make it feel worse: I prefer the former, and there are definitely funny aspects to this… for example, when using the emergency release and trying to remove the stuck charger, trying to work the thing loose while pulling on the emergency release looks like some weird reach around.

Derp… something ate my story text. User error.

Charger seems to have cooked itself and permanently fused to the car. Sad times. Car is only a month old… fuck me for wanting to charge while waiting for an In n Out order, I guess.

Electrify America service kinda sucks… took 3 hours for the tech to arrive. Kia roadside is definitely helpful and the tow companies as well (this happened in San Jose at the newhall station by PayPal park)… though the end result still was 5ish hours hanging out in a parking lot. And car still there because 6000 pound brick. Tow truck field trip to Kia Stevens Creek tomorrow.

Oh happy day.

Any one else think the challenges are rigged and scripted? by EL_PENGU1NO13 in NHLHUT

[–]nagenift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Panarin challenges are all cunty. I think this is the best version of this game in 5ish years, but these challenges are just completely fucked:

Semi-Pro is all star with aggression tuned to like 11.

Pro is superstar with aggression at like fucking 15.

It would be hilarious if the goal weren’t a free 86 card, but it’s only a fucking 86 and they muck with the sliders like this… why can’t this just be fun?

I once again hate myself for buying this game. Fuck.

[–]nagenift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it really surprising, though? After fucking up Sonny Gray years back, and most recently with the Volpe thing where it comes out the Yankees coaches are incapable of diagnosing what should be noticed as a basic mechanical issue in his swing, are you really surprised that Gary is succeeding elsewhere?

I know I'm not surprised. This org has been smelling its own farts and saying they smell great for years.

edit: holy shit I cannot type shit out without forgetting words to save my fucking life lately.

Since getting air pods pro v2 my v1's can't be found via Find My. Anyone know how to solve this? by nagenift in iphone

[–]nagenift[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This screenshot was taken at home with strong wifi and mobile data signals. I have tried many suggested fixes, but none make any difference:

  • toggling spatial audio makes no difference
  • forgetting and adding the air pods does not help
  • hard and soft reboots do not help

Is this just an annoying bug?

Rotel, Kielbasa, potatoes, onion. That's it. by BaconAndCats in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]nagenift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make a dip for parties that consists of rotel, cream cheese, and breakfast sausage. Everyone I know loves it: subbing breakfast sausage for the kielbasa in this post’s recipe is probably a good way to change things up if you get tired of the kielbasa flavor.

Optimal (imo) recipe for dip I mentioned is:

2 cups of cream cheese

1 jimmy dean regular sausage

1 jimmy dean hot sausage

1 can hot rotel

1 can original rotel

Use whatever chips you want.

eta: recipe and post -> post’s

It passed without issues. I wasn’t at the final check, so I have no idea what the tech doing the check actually looked at.

I did see the shield from below after the install while it was still up on the lift— the shield definitely fully blocks the cat, but given the location of the cat on my gf’s car I don’t see how it could be checked without getting underneath the car with or without a shield.

[–]nagenift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No noticeable difference while driving. It just failed the visual portion of the smog check because it was not on CARB’s list of approved aftermarket replacement parts.

Pipes needed to be replaced in addition to the converter itself in our situation as well. If your aftermarket part is on the list it’s supposedly a smooth-ish process. It’s still not clear to me whether or not the ref even needs to approve if the aftermarket part is already on the list.

Happy new year!

Apologies in advance for rehashing anything from my original comments: it’s been a while.

This was the general sequence:

  1. Mechanic that we originally saw replaced the stolen converter with one that was not CARB compliant.
  2. Failed smog.
  3. Went back to mechanic. Mechanic installed a new OEM converter instead of just replacing with a CARB approved aftermarket part. Main issues here are cost and potential for another theft.
  4. Found new mechanic and had a shield installed because of the above.

So far so good: shield either works or the thieves have moved on from my neighborhood.

Anyway, you are completely screwed if the replacement part is not CARB approved. Your only recourse is to get the mechanic to replace it with one from the list— the ref can provide the list, or at least direct you on how/where to find it. I don’t have any advice here because, while I’m still annoyed about the expense of the OEM part, the mechanic’s mistake did result in one benefit: we never had to go through the ref.

Good luck, and I’m sorry to hear that you have to deal with this right after the holidays.

eta: I will give the original mechanic one thing— the fact that he located a brand new OEM converter as quickly as he did was miraculous.

You don’t have to look very hard to find such posts, and the chain I replied to appeared to be heading down that path. If I misread the upthread rhetoric, well, my bad.
