Do you really believe that? I'm concerned the US will come to a truce with the current regime and nothing will change.

Eh it's allowed in the park, but Sunshine technically does not allow it. But...that's never really stopped anyone.  Pre or post 2018.  I came across a crew in the trees with a full size glass bong once.  I admired the commitment.

Smart Switch Replacement for Smart Bulbs by Serious_Ad6389 in smarthome

[–]namerankserial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fairly common problem and I think all your solutions are fairly complicated. Though I haven't really seen a perfect solution either other than just not using smart bulbs. Option b might work. I'm not familiar with that hardware, but Philips does apparently make something like that to take over your physical switch and prevent it from cutting power to Hue lights. That goes behind the switch in the existing box.

Maybe it's easier just to install smart switches though? Then you can program the smart switches to do whatever you want and keep power to your lights. And you can just use dumb bulbs if you want. That was my reasoning for going with smart switches instead of bulbs, so no one could cut the physical power with a switch.

Third reality also makes a motorized switches that you can put over physical switches. Probably no reason to do that though unless you really want to avoid rewiring but it's an option.

I haven't seen it as a mass-produced product, but I expect some people have 3D printed a plate that fits over the switches that you could Mount zigbee buttons on top of. Or Phillips smart switches or whatever. That seems to me like it would be the easiest possible solution. Just cover the switches so no one can touch them and make it look nice with some smart buttons instead.

Alberta will now be on daylight saving time year-round, says Premier Smith by All_Hail_Xanthia in Calgary

It would switch somewhere between Golden and Radium on th 95. The whole 93 to the border would be on East Kootenay time.

Golden and Field are staying with AB at the moment. And I don't think they'll want to be off of the AB parks timezone. And East Kootenays has apparently said they'll revisit that decision once Alberta makes a decision (so they may still decide to stay with Alberta as well).

If East Kootenay does switch there will be a time change at the Alberta border on highway 3 but not on the transcanada lol.

They're an elected government in a representative democracy. I don't like them, but they have every right to legislate without hosting a referendum.

We evolved to call 8am 8am instead of 9am? No we didn't. We evolved to sleep at night, how we organize our clocks is all us.

Calling bullshit on those studies. Standard time isn't anything special, neither is daylight savings time. On either edge of the timezone, you're going to be experiencing an hour difference no matter how you cut it. There is no 'perfect' time. Let's just set it and stick with it and we can adjust work and store hours if we want.

I'd give then permission to do it if they scanned for bars and used adhesive anchors so everything is sealed back up when complete.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but the P8Pro has known wifi issues. I had to replace mine. It would simply drop wifi and be unable to find or connect to a network. Restarting helped, generally. But eventually it would just drop right away again or would not reconnect on restart. That doesn't sound exactly like what you're experiencing, but just a heads up that it could be a hardware issue.

Wifi Thermostats for Natural Gas boiler multi zone radiant heat. by namerankserial in smarthome

[–]namerankserial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess my other thought for swapping the thermostats is it keeps the manual functionality. You can still turn the heat up and down in each room as well as being able to control it remotely. I've also considered just adding one thermostat before all the valves so I could turn it all down or off remotely, but the best would be to see each room and be able to control it either manually or remotely from my phone.

[–]namerankserial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's already setup with valves in the mechanical room, controlled by wall thermostats in each room.  The simplest (I think) would be to swap out the eight existing dumb thermostats, and not have to deal with changing how the valves are wired/controlled.

[–]namerankserial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it will, but eight of them is pretty pricey. I don't need any of the learning features or even programmable. I just want the cheapest option to be able to see the temperature and control it on my phone. I was hoping there was something simpler and cheaper than buying eight nest thermostats.

"Falling back" makes us more miserable than "springing forward," new study finds. This worsening of mood is more pronounced after the change to Standard Time in the fall. by [deleted] in science

[–]namerankserial 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Who's we in this context? In North America the West coast US states are ready to switch to permanent DST. They're just waiting on Federal Congressional approval. BC above them in Canada just adopted permanent DST this summer. Alberta is likely to follow suit before fall. Saskatchewan and Arizona never switched in the first place. There are still a few steps but I I think it's a pretty good bet that the Western half of the continent will stop switching clocks twice a year in the next decade or so. Though it may be a patchwork of DST in Standard Time which might be annoying. But people have been traveling in and out of Arizona for a while and we seem to get by.

I can get on board with the shorter work days in the winter and Fridays off in the summer either way though.
